Ather Rizta

As Ather Rizta is a family-friendly electric scooter that is designed more subtly than its sibling Ather 450X, which comes in a more sporty and sharp bodywork design. Additionally, it also has a longer and wider frame than 450X, which makes Rizta slightly bigger in surface area. 

Coming to the front portion, this scooter has an apron-mounted LED Headlight with LED indicators, which makes it quite cute from the straight front. 

When it comes to the floor bed, it offers ample legroom for a comfortable and convenient riding experience. Mostly, households use this floorbed for their luggage and other handy essentials. Additionally, if you have a dog, then he will enjoy the ride too, as he can sit comfortably on the floorbed beside you.

Similarly, the seat is also broader and spacy where two adults and a child can fit comfortably.  This seat is paired with a premium-looking grabrail and a backrest for back support. 

​Coming to the rear, Rizta equips a slim LED taillight with inbuilt indicators that look futuristic from the back portion. Furthermore, Rizta is available in 7 color options you can choose such as Cardamom Green, Alphonso Yellow, Pangong Blue, Deccan Grey, Pangong Blue, Siachen White, and Deccan Grey.

Ather Energy is known for its modern features and technology, and Rizta is no exception. First things first, this scooter is equipped with integrated LED lighting with indicators all at the head and the tail with a sleek design, as you can see in the image above.

Talking about the instrument console, you can find it fully digitalised, 7-inch LCD screen in the Rizta S variant. Whereas, Rizta Z features a full-color TFT console. Moreover, when it comes to navigation, the Rizta S has turn-by-turn navigation, whereas the Rizta Z has Google Maps.

Furthermore, this scooter has all the features Ather offers in its lineup such as hill hold assist, reverse mode, smart eco mode and Fall Safe feature. The Fall Safe feature is a safety feature that turns off the motor when the scooter falls. Additionally, it also includes a traction control system that prevents the tyres from skidding on wet surfaces. Not only that, it has a special unit in its wheels which helps in matching the rear wheel speed from the front wheel. However, the chances of wheelspin on slippery surfaces are already very low due to the linear power delivery in scooters.

When it comes to storage, this scooter has a larger under-seat storage of 34L, where you can keep your essential items such as two helmets, and other regular stuff like groceries. In addition to the underseat storage, it contains an optional boot organiser which enables you to transform it into a carry bag where you can keep all your stuff out of the boot storage. This family-friendly scooter does not stop here, it also offers a 22 L front trunk storage which makes the total storage capacity of Ather Rizta to 56 L. 

Since Rizta is a family-focused scooter, performance isn't the priority. A 4.3 kW motor powers it and can reach up to 80 kmph. Further, with a 2.9 kWh battery, it claims an IDC-certified range of over 120 km. However, in a real-world scenario, it may go only up to 80 km in Zip mode, which is one of the two riding modes available in this scooter. These two riding modes are Zip and Smart Eco Mode. This seems to be the primary reason that many people prefer to go for the larger battery of 3.7 kWh which provides over 150 km range that is suitable for long rides.

The Rizta is an electric machine but performs just like a 110cc petrol-powered scooter. However, when you switch it to Smart Eco mode, it will have trouble maintaining speed and climbing hills. Having said that, this has to do with the tuning of the Smart Eco mode and is readily resolved with an OTA update. Whenever you’re taking it to the inclines, you will have to switch settings, though. Nonetheless, this is not what you have expected from Ather because the Smart Eco mode works perfectly on the 450X.

There is a new feature in Rizta, known as the Magic Twist Throttle. It works just as the engine brakes in an E- e-scooter. Therefore, when you turn the throttle in the opposite direction, you may easily slow down the scooter without applying additional brakes. It performs fantastic in Rizta, and in many conditions, you won’t even feel the need to apply the brakes. Moreover, you can also get a costing regenerative braking, (coasting means cruising without using the throttle). This feature recharges its batteries while coasting.

Overall, if the battery capacity can be improved on the base, then this scooter has the potential to make you feel more than it is worth it.

The Rizta handles quite well, even though its frame is larger and wider than the 450X's. It is stable and makes sharp cuts quite smoothly. The electric scooter feels light and balanced even at low speeds, making it enjoyable to ride in city traffic and even at higher speeds.

Although the sportier 450X is superior in corners, the Rizta performs admirably as a family scooter. Most of the time, the MRF tires feel stable, but when you brake particularly hard, they tend to lock up. That's partly because the 130mm rear drum brake has the strong bite as the 200mm front disc. 

Ather Rizta has a good ride quality since it is supported by a mono-shock and telescopic fork, which effectively absorbs most bumps and potholes on Indian roads. However, sometimes the sharp bumps and potholes still produce a harsh kickback.
