Honda has revealed the design of the Prologue, its first electric SUV developed in collaboration with General Motors.
Honda has officially introduced the Prologue, its first all-electric SUV, after a series of teasers. The Honda Prologue, which goes on sale in North America in 2024, combines the Ultium platform from General Motors with a brand-specific design created by the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles.
The Prologue, which will be positioned above the CR-V and next to the Passport and offer plenty of passenger and cargo space, will, according to Honda, complement its array of light trucks. The electric SUV is around 8 inches (203 mm) longer and 5 inches (127 mm) wider than the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V and has a wheelbase of 121.8 inches (3,093 mm), which is identical to the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Blazer EV.
The exact measurements are 192 inches (4,876 millimeters), 78.3 inches (1,988 mm), and 64.7 inches (1,643 mm). For reference, the Blazer EV is roughly 194 in (4,927 mm) long, while the Cadillac Lyriq is somewhat longer at 196.7 in (4,996 mm). Although Honda doesn't reveal specifics, the cabin is expected to have plenty of room for both passengers and baggage.
The car manufacturer does speak frequently about the appearance, which it calls as "Neo-Rugged" with a clear and uncomplicated surfacing. Highlights include the huge 21-inch wheels, the panoramic roof, the sleek horizontal taillights joined by a trim element incorporating Honda branding in a stylized typeface, and the front fascia which draws inspiration from the distinctive design of the Honda e urban EV. The Honda Prologue is said to have a capable and stable exterior thanks to all of these.
These are all alleged to increase the Honda Pr The Prologue also has the brand's e: series name badging to match Honda's global EV vehicles, if you pay great attention to the rear-end image. Prologue a capable and planted exterior. The Prologue will be offered in a distinctive North Shore Pearl exterior colour, which was inspired by the natural beauty and colors of Lake Tahoe in California.
Honda claims that the image of recently fallen snow on the mountains served as inspiration for the unique interior color scheme of charcoal and light grey. Speaking of the interior, the electric SUV has a high-tech layout that includes a standard completely digital 11.3-inch audio/connectivity display and an 11-inch driver display screen.
Along with a multi-function steering wheel, a tall centre console with a wireless phone charging pad, two cupholders, and a covered storage space beneath the centre elbow rest, we can also make out actual controls for the climate control and seat heating underneath the central display.
Masaki Sumimoto, design lead for the Color, Materials and Finish
"Our goal was to create a clean harmony based on a rugged SUV image by coordinating the colors and materials to express neo-rugged design styling that's familiar to our customers and uniquely Honda."
Honda has not yet discussed engine options, but it has confirmed that all-wheel drive will be an option for the Prologue. Expect it to use one of the dual-motor configurations found on the Chevrolet Blazer EV, though perhaps not the SS's 557-hp engine, which has the longest range. Similar to the Blazer EV, the entry-level option should be a single motor FWD powertrain with a 250-mile range (402 kilometers).
The Japanese manufacturer anticipates selling 2 million units of 30 new EVs globally by the year 2030. The Prologue will mark the start of the growth in North America in 2024, and models built on Honda's own e:Architecture will follow in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
The Prologue SUV will first be available in the American market, but it will also be available in Europe and Asia sometime later. Honda has a big customer base in India as well and moreover, India is one of the biggest markets for automotive manufacturers. And not to forget that India is growing EV market and will soon be the driving force for the EV industry globally. We really hope that Honda Prologue will be available in Indian markets.
