Here is a list of best electric cars in India 2023. Our Editor has selected the top 3 electric cars in India on-sale in 2023.
Tata, MG, Hyundai, Volvo, BMW & many more companies have started selling off EVs aggressively in India as the Indian market has become conducive for EVs. Let's see the Editor's Top 3 electric cars in India.
People all across the world are making the switch to electric vehicles (EVs). Indians are starting to grasp the benefits and efficiency of electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and widely owned in India, to the point that seeing an EV car on the country's roadways is no longer unusual.
Most Indian automakers are announcing or releasing electric vehicles, and Tata has already made inroads into the EV industry. Among the new EVs introduced were the MG ZS EV from MG Motors, the Porsche Taycan EV from Porsche, and the magnificent Hyundai Kona Electric from Hyundai. Then there's the sophisticated Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Mahindra, on the other hand, offered us the XUV400 and teased us with the impending INGLO EV. Mahindra's new INGLO EV platform is based on a modular electric skateboard and will enable the Indian automaker's all-new EV portfolio by the end of 2024.
In the future, there will surely be a slew of electric automobiles. In India, however, you may now pick from a "variety" of EVs. Because of the broad price range and availability of high-end amenities, there is an EV for any budget.
But before we get into the Editor's Choice Top 3 EVs of 2022, let's have a look at how the Editor selected the top 3 EVs.
Now let's deep dive inside the Editor Choice Top 3 EVs in India 2022:
Note: The sales numbers of these cars have not been taken into consideration.
| Kona Electric Model | Price ||---------------------|--------------|| Premium | ₹ 23.84 Lakh || Premium Dual Tone | ₹ 24.03 Lakh |
The Kona is powered by a 134bhp/395Nm electric motor that is linked to a high voltage 39.2kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. It features several driving modes, including Eco+, Eco, Comfort, and Sport.
Add to that the Hyundai Kona is fast. It can reach from 0 to 100 in 9.7 seconds which is clearly in the fast hatch/sedan territory.
Furthermore, the lack of NVH obscures the sense of speed that we are all accustomed to from combustion engines.
Furthermore, there are no snags as the Kona accelerates beyond 100kmph and reaches 150kmph in the blink of an eye. It just gets slower after that. These accomplishments are noteworthy for what is essentially an electric city runabout.
In terms of range, Hyundai estimates the Kona can go 452 kilometers on a single charge. Although the on-road range may differ but assuming Hyundai's claims are correct, this figure is more than enough, given that the Kona will be mostly a city car.
While the DC rapid charger can charge the Kona to 80% in 57 minutes, the 7.2kW Level-II charger takes around 6 hours and 10 minutes.
| Specifications | ||------------------|------------------------------------|| Price | From ₹23.8 lakhs onwards || Range | 452 km battery-only || Battery | 39.2 kwh || Engine Type | Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor || Power | 136 PS || Torque | 395 Nm || Fuel Type | Electric || Seating Capacity | 5 |
| Nexon EV Prime Model | Price ||--------------------------|--------------|| XM | ₹ 14.49 Lakh || XZ Plus | ₹ 15.99 Lakh || XZ Plus Dark Edition | ₹ 16.49 Lakh || XZ Plus LUX | ₹ 16.99 Lakh || XZ Plus LUX Dark Edition | ₹ 17.50 Lakh || XZ Plus Lux Jet | ₹ 17.50 Lakh |
On July 12, 2022, the Tata Nexon EV was rebranded and reintroduced as the Tata Nexon EV Prime.
The electric compact SUV comes in three models: XM, XZ+, and XZ+ LUX. For the Nexon EV Prime, Tata Motors provides a three-year/1.25-lakh-kilometer standard warranty as well as an eight-year/1.6-lakh-kilometer battery and motor guarantee. It takes around 6 hours and 10 minutes to charge the l-II charger.
The Nexon EV Prime is built with the Impact Design 2.0 programming language. The aggressive grille in the bottom half of the bumper with characteristic tri-arrow components stands out on the fascia, as does the signature Humanity Line between the headlights.
The higher trim level has a sunroof as well as front rain-sensing wipers. It also receives a new set of alloy wheels to distinguish it from the standard variant.
The Nexon EV Prime is propelled by a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is coupled to a 30.2kWh lithium-ion and liquid-cooled battery pack to provide 127bhp and 245Nm.
The Nexon EV has an ARAI-approved range of 312km and is IP67 rated. A 3.3kW bundled charger can charge the battery pack from 20% to 100% in eight hours, while a 25kW fast charger can charge the battery from 0% to 80% in 60 minutes.
| Specifications | ||------------------|--------------------------------------------|| Price | Rs. 14.99 Lakh upto Rs. 17.50 Lakh || Range | 312 Km/charge || Battery | 30.2 kWh battery pack || Engine Type | 3-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor || Power | 127 bhp || Torque | 245 Nm || Fuel Type | Electric || Seating Capacity | 5 |
| XC40 Recharge Model | Price ||---------------------|--------------|| P8 AWD | ₹ 56.90 Lakh |
The Volvo XC40 Recharge is an electric version of the premium compact SUV and the automaker's first significant step into the electric vehicle category.
This is consistent with their goal of being a totally electric vehicle firm by 2030. Now, XC40 Recharge is built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, resembles the XC40 crossover, and includes all of the benefits of its ICE-powered brother.
Volvo says that the car accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds.
There is quick power available, and with the one-speed gearbox functioning smoothly, short sprints will be enjoyable! Also, the throttle response isn't particularly quick. It is possible to make rapid progress toward triple-digit speeds. However, its peak speed is limited to 180kmph.
Two 150kW electric motors are installed on the front and rear axles of the XC40 Recharge. The total power is around 400bhp and 660Nm of torque.
That's a lot of power for a little vehicle with all-wheel drive as standard. Furthermore, a 78kWh battery powers the electric motors. The latter is said to have a maximum range of roughly 418km on a single charge, which is rather impressive.
This battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes using a fast 150kW charger. However, this one is not yet accessible in India. Even so, a 50kW fast charger will take roughly 2-2.5 hours to fully charge the crossover.
| Specifications | ||------------------|----------------------------------|| Price | From Rs. 55.90 Lakh onwards || Range | 180 Kmph || Battery | 78Kwh || Engine Type | 2.0-liter petrol Engine, 1969 cc || Power | 402bhp || Torque | 300 Nm || Fuel Type | Electric || Seating Capacity | 5 |
Well, we wrap it off here. You've got three of the best EVs in India which are on-sale in India. The choice here after is all yours. We will be back with more of the Editor's Choice Cars & Bikes.
