The Citroen Basalt, launching on August 9 in India, is a stylish coupe SUV set to rival the Tata Curvv.

Citroen Basalt SUV Launching in India on August 9

The Citroen Basalt, the fifth car from the French auto giant in India, is set to launch this Friday, August 9. Unveiled recently, the Citroen Basalt aims to carve out a new niche in the Indian passenger mass market segment. While the coupe SUV body style has been mostly seen in premium and luxury cars, the Basalt brings this style to a broader audience.

Citroen Basalt Overview

Citroen Basalt, under the Stellantis brand, is the company's flagship model for the Indian market. With its unique body profile and distinct external design, it stands out in the mid-size SUV segment. Citroen’s previous models in India, such as the C5 Aircross, C3 Aircross, C3 hatchback, and the all-electric eC3, have not achieved high sales. However, Basalt has the potential to change that with what Citroen describes as 'unthinkable pricing.'

Engine Options

The Citroen Basalt offers two petrol engine options:

1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol:

  • Power: 81 bhp

  • Torque: 115 Nm

  • Transmission: Five-speed manual gearbox

1.2-litre turbo petrol:

  • Power: 108 bhp

  • Torque: 190 Nm (manual) / 205 Nm (automatic)

  • Transmission: Six-speed manual or automatic gearbox

Fuel Economy

The Citroen Basalt boasts a fuel economy of 18 kmpl to 19.5 kmpl, depending on the engine and transmission choice. The turbo variant with a six-speed manual gearbox offers the best mileage among all versions.

Feature Highlights

The Citroen Basalt comes packed with features, including:

  • 10.25-inch infotainment screen

  • Seven-inch all-digital driver display

  • Wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

  • Automatic climate control

  • Wireless charging pad

  • Auto-folding ORVMs

  • Projector LED headlights

  • Approximately 470 liters of cargo space

Competition

The Basalt will face competition from the Tata Curvv, set to launch on the 2nd of September 2024. Other competitors in the mid-size SUV market include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.

With its competitive pricing and a slew of features, the Citroen Basalt aims to make a significant impact in the Indian SUV market. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the launch date.
