Volvo is set to launch the XC40 compact SUV in India. The manufacturer has made changes to the design and inside for 2022, but it is what attracts more is what is under the hood.
Volvo Cars India is expected to debut the Volvo XC40 compact SUV in India today, along with a new mild-hybrid powertrain that will join the Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV. The manufacturer has made changes to the design and inside for 2022, but it is behind the hood that attracts the most attention. Volvo intends to totally electrify its portfolio by the end of this decade, with MHEV and PHEV variants accounting for 50% of total sales, with all-electric cars accounting for the remainder. The Volvo XC40 compact was once available with a diesel engine, which was eventually replaced with a petrol-only variant.
The XC40 is more of a cousin than a brother to the bigger 90 and 60 Series automobiles in terms of design, having its own personality, expression, and character. New bumpers, pixel headlights with 84 LEDs, new wheels and aerodynamic rims, new exterior colour options, and new interior options, such as Fjord blue carpeting and graphic design inlays, were added to the design.
The Volvo XC40 is outfitted with a Google-developed infotainment system that includes built-in Google applications and services. The centrepiece is access to Google applications and services, which include assistance with Google Assistant, navigation via Google Maps, and a diverse selection of native in-car apps via Google Play.
The XC40 also has Volvo Cars' most recent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform, which includes radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. This allows active safety features such as pedestrian recognition, automatic braking, and accident avoidance. The Pilot Assist function also provides modest driver assistance from a standstill to motorway speeds.
The Volvo XC40 is offered with a 2.0-liter petrol engine mated to a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain producing 197 horsepower and 300 Nm of peak torque. It drives the front wheels with an 8-speed automatic transmission. According to Volvo, the mild hybrids provide smooth take-offs and up to 15% fuel savings and pollution reductions in real-world driving.
The present Volvo XC40 costs Rs. 41.25 lakh, thus we estimate the new car to cost between Rs. 43 lakh and Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, it competes with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and even the MINI Countryman.
