Tesla has started producing Tesla Semi, a prototype class 8 electric vehicle, in full swing. And we have been hearing already about these semi trucks being requested from many big e-commerce companies.
Tesla, In November 2017, presented the Tesla Semi, a prototype Class 8 electric vehicle. Musk stated at the time that production will begin in 2019. Walmart and FedEx both claimed to have placed orders.
The semi-electric vehicle is projected to be widely available in 2019. However, due to component issues, the vehicle will only be produced in limited quantities until 2020. And now, in 2022, Tesla will begin total production because it can manage the component supply chain, which has been hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, there will be no more distribution delays.
What is concerning about the Tesla Semi is that the driver's seat is positioned in the centre of the cabin, similar to that of a sports vehicle. That's because its for the sake of visibility, and truckers in America typically walk alone.
This steering wheel can also be tilted and telescopically adjusted, making the driving position more ergonomic and ideal for a variety of driver postures. The payload, or maximum weight that the 2021 Tesla Semi Truck can tow/transport, is 40 tonnes. Figures 40 tonnes are in agreement with the maximum load that can be transported in America. If this Tesla truck is utilized to tow a trailer with a maximum weight, it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 20 seconds.
This truck, like other Tesla cars, is outfitted with Tesla Autopilot integrated safety measures. This Tesla Autopilot is powered by 12 ultrasonic sensors that cover the entire width of the vehicle.
This truck is powered by four electric motors located in each of the rear wheels. Panasonic also provides a Lithium-ion battery that can charge from 0 to 80% in under 30 minutes.
Elon Musk said in his presentation that the truck can travel up to 800 kilometres. Furthermore, the Tesla Semi Truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (approximately 100 kilometres per hour) in about 5 seconds without dragging a trailer.
