The design patent for the production-spec Tata Sierra EV has been leaked, offering a sneak peek into the anticipated electric SUV's styling. Excitement builds as the iconic Sierra nameplate takes a step towards modernity.
Tata Sierra EV View at Auto Expo 2023
The automotive world is buzzing with excitement as a design patent of what appears to be the production-spec Tata Sierra EV has leaked online. This comes after the initial showcase of the Sierra EV concept at Auto Expo 2023, where buyers were treated to a glimpse of Tata Motors' revival of the iconic Sierra nameplate.
Concept vs. Production: A Shift in Design
The Sierra EV concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 featured a distinctive sliding rear door on the passenger side, paying homage to the original Tata Sierra's unique design. However, the leaked patent images now reveal a shift towards a more conventional 5-door SUV layout. The production model exhibits a boxy appearance with short front and rear overhangs, similar to the Land Rover Defender.
Design Patent Insights
The design patent reveals intriguing details expected to make it into the production. The front profile boasts of a clean appearance with an LED strip running across the width, bumper-integrated headlights, a muscular bonnet, and a rugged skid plate. The overall stance draws inspiration from the Land Rover Discovery, with flush door handles, large alloy wheels, and a distinctive kink on the B-pillar.
Sierra EV
The Sierra nameplate holds a special place in the hearts of Indian automotive enthusiasts, with the original Sierra making its debut in 1991 with a groundbreaking two-door SUV design. Tata Motors revived the Sierra concept with a 3-door version at the 2020 Auto Expo, later evolving it into a larger 5-door concept with revised styling at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Future Production Model and Expected Changes
While the production version is anticipated to retain the concept's aesthetic appeal, minor changes may be introduced for enhancing the practicality. The interior is also expected to feature the premium elements and advanced features showcased in the concept version. Tata Motors aims to launch the Sierra EV with an all-electric powertrain, catering to the growing demands for electric vehicles.
The Road Ahead
As anticipation builds, industry insiders speculate that Tata Motors may also introduce an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version of the Sierra to appeal to a broader audience. If all goes according to the plan, then the production version of the Tata Sierra EV is expected to hit the showrooms in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the journey of the Tata Motor’s and bringing back a beloved nameplate with a modern and electric twist.
CarBike360 Says: Tata Motors has leaked the production design of the Sierra EV, marking a significant step in the revival of the iconic nameplate. It aims to blend heritage and innovation, with an anticipated launch in 2025, offering a compact and stylish package.
