Discover the latest on the new-gen Skoda Kodiaq, set for a May 2025 launch in India with local assembly and a host of updated features and powertrain options.

Skoda Confirms May 2025 Launch for Next-Gen Kodiaq in India

It is confirmed that the next-generation Skoda Kodiaq, which debuted globally last year, would debut in India in May 2025. At the global launch of the Kylaq subcompact SUV, Peter Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, made the announcement. Notably, the new Kodiaq will be built locally, increasing its affordability for Indian consumers.

Testing Phase and Local Assembly Details

The new-generation Kodiaq is presently being tested in India, Peter Janeba noted. Numerous pre-production models have been observed, suggesting that there have been substantial validation attempts. In March 2025, Skoda's Aurangabad, Maharashtra factory will begin local assembly, setting the stage for an official launch a few weeks later. Until the new model is released, the current version Kodiaq will be available for purchase.

Design and Exterior Features

The design of the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq is improved upon from its predecessor, with notable external changes:

Front Fascia: A 2D Skoda logo sits atop the muscular bonnet, and a dramatic butterfly grille is flanked by split LED headlights.
Profile: For a tough look, the wheel arches are squared off, maintaining the recognizable boxy form.
Rear: Reminiscent of the new Kylaq look, the wraparound LED taillights and the distinctive "Skoda" badging on the tailgate.

Powertrain and Platform

The 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI petrol engine that powers the 2017 Kodiaq will generate 188 horsepower and 320 Nm of peak torque. A seven-speed DSG automatic transmission will be paired with this engine. The SUV is constructed on the same MQB EVO platform as previous VW Group cars. The fully equipped L&K trim is probably going to be available at launch, while further versions could be added later.

Interior and Feature Upgrades

India is expected to receive the seven-seater version of the Kodiaq, which comes with notable cabin enhancements:

  • A 10-inch digital driver display serves as the virtual cockpit.
  • Infotainment: A 13-inch touchscreen that stands alone.
  • Extra features include a twin 15-watt wireless charging box, a 14-speaker Canton sound system, four USB-C charging outlets, massaging seats, and a head-up display.
  • For better ergonomics and space, the gear selector was moved behind the steering wheel.
  • The new-gen Kodiaq will also feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to enhance safety and driving experience.

Conclusion

The next generation Skoda Kodiaq is expected to provide Indian consumers with a cutting-edge, feature-rich, and performance-focused SUV. Skoda hopes to increase its market share in India's high-end SUV market with its verified domestic assembly and competitive timeframe.
