With striking design cues and advanced features, the Rafale breaks cover to make a statement on the road.

Renault Introduces the Rafale: A Captivating Coupe SUV

Renault has unveiled its latest flagship model, the Rafale, a captivating D-segment coupe SUV that stands proudly alongside the Espace MPV. Embodying Renault's newest design direction, the Rafale takes its name from the esteemed Caudron-Renault Rafale touring monoplane, renowned for its remarkable speed of 445kmph back in 1934. Leading the design charge is Gilles Vidal, the new head of Renault's design team.

Built upon the alliance's CMF-CD platform, the Rafale not only boasts an impressive visual appeal but also masterfully combines the elements of a coupe and an SUV. Its striking aesthetics are accentuated by the presence of striking 20-inch alloy wheels, an alluring duck-tail boot lip, sleek black cladding encompassing the vehicle, and an enhanced front fascia featuring a fresh Renault grille and headlamp signature.

Renault Introduces the Rafale: A Captivating Coupe SUV

Inside the cabin, the Rafale showcases the pinnacle of Renault's interior design. The contemporary dashboard boasts a fully digital 12.3-inch driver's display, horizontally aligned for optimal visibility. Seamlessly integrated into the same panel is a vertically stacked 12-inch infotainment screen, creating a cohesive and streamlined cockpit. Renault has also equipped the Rafale with its latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety and convenience.

Let's look inside the cabin, notable highlights include Alpine-inspired sports seats adorned in luxurious recycled Alcantara material, accompanied by a spacious fixed glass roof.

The Rafale further indulges its occupants with a 9.3-inch heads-up display and wireless smartphone integration. Renault proudly announces the second-row headroom to be 800mm, a mere 92mm less than that of the Espace. Additionally, the ample boot space measures an impressive 647 litres.

Engine and Performance

The Rafale presents a hybrid powertrain configuration. It combines a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a pair of electric motors, resulting in a combined power output of 200bhp, mirroring that of the Espace.

The higher trim variant also boasts an all-wheel drive (AWD) system with rear axle-mounted motors. For those seeking more power, Renault plans to introduce a potent 300bhp plug-in hybrid variant at a later stage.

While the Rafale will be manufactured at the Palencia plant in Spain, initially targeting the European market, it is unfortunate that the prospects of the Rafale reaching Indian shores appear slim.

Nonetheless, the Rafale embodies Renault's commitment to pushing boundaries in design and technology, cementing its position as a distinguished player in the automotive landscape.
