Highlights
Vision EQXX EV will complete more than 1000 km on a single charge.
Its drag coefficient is 0.17Cd makes it highly efficient.
Third edition of Safe Roads summit in India by Mercedes-Benz recently occurred. First edition was held in 2015 and the second edition occurred in 2019. Mercedez manufacturers made two crucial announcements in the recent edition. First being the Vision Zero 2050 which aspires to achieve the target of accident free driving by 2050. Second was to display the Vision EQXX electric concept car which is proposed to complete more than 1,000 km on a single charge, that too twice. Vision EQXX EV concept was introduced in the start of this year on global level.
“Vision EQXX is a testament to our development approach. It underlines our pioneering spirit, technological leadership and expertise in electric cars, and positions Mercedes-Benz as a leading tech brand. I am proud to share that MBRDI has contributed extensively towards the development of Vision EQXX”. Said, Manu Saale, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI).
The EQXX has been made very efficient as its drag coefficient is 0.17Cd,which is considered the lowest among all Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle. Till now The EQS 580 with a drag coefficient of 0.20Cd, is the best any production car has been able to achieve.
When it comes to efficiency, Mercedes is also keeping up the weight down as much as it could be. Mercedes is also working to keep the dimensions of Vision EQXX compact.
Since The brand is more inclined towards making The Vision EQXX most efficient, It will not be the most powerful electric Mercedes-Benz car. It is powered by a single motor electric car which is producing 244hp (180 kW) and is positioned at the rear axle. Up to 900V charging is supported by A 100kWh battery The EQXX has real-world range of around 1,000km, which is 250km more than the highest-range variant of the EQS.
Enhancing efficiency is the sole factor that was on the mind of the manufacturers. By opting for the betterment of aerodynamics, Mercedes has won half the battle. Mercedes employed 100kWh battery that provides over 1,000 km of range but the car benefits more from its aerodynamics rather than the battery.
With the ability to run around 10 km per kWH which is almost double the EQS on the WLTP cycle, Mercedes-Benz is going to be the most efficient electric car so far. When it comes to efficiency with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, It is equivalent of an ICE-powered car.
Moreover, Installation of 117 solar cells on the roof will help the Vision EQXX get even better efficiency. Installed solar panels help cover up to to 25km of additional range for a day. As of now, the solar panels are going to cover the rear window, which will intern obstruct the visibility at the back.
The Vision is a four-door coupe which is featuring a streamlined design, with smooth, flowing lines and come without any cuts. In the front, the Vision EQXX gets an LED lightbar which is stretching across the width of the car and The most unique feature being the front which is incorporated with a three-pointed star as daytime running lights in the headlamps.
The Vision EQXX also has a sticker of the Mercedes-Benz logo on the bonnet just like the one on Mercedes-AMG One hypercar,. On the bumper, it is styled with multiple three-pointed star motifs that copies a grille-like design. This makes the car worthy for road.
When it comes to sides,The Vision EQXX receives a lightweight magnesium wheels covered by see-through covers which reduces turbulence and aid aerodynamics. Just like the the latest Mercedes-Benz models, it also has flush door handles.
What makes Vision EQXX’s different from the rest of the electric cars is its rear design. This electric vehicle got a pouncing roofline that makes it design long tailed, which is reminiscent of the McLaren Speedtail. Mercedes does this to reduce the drag.
An inverted U-shaped lightbar at the back works as the brake light. There’s a concealed rear diffuser which extends out at high speeds automatically to reduce turbulence and get better airflow. With the rear being 50mm narrower than front,The EQXX comes with bewildered width. The interior of the Vision EQXX was not accessible at the time as Mercedes only showcases the prototype.
When Mercedes-Benz displays the full, and driveable version of the Vision EQXX concept in India in January,We will update you, stay tuned for more details
