Maruti Suzuki has launched the Grand Vitara today. The Grand Vitara's powerful hybrid models are Rs 50,000 more expensive than the Toyota Hyryder's. Meanwhile, mild hybrid models are Rs 20,000 cheaper.
The much-anticipated Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has arrived, with pricing ranging from Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Grand Vitara, a cousin to the newly debuted Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, not only features hybrid powertrains but also brings back the 4WD system to this market following the demise of the Renault Duster AWD. It is currently Maruti's flagship vehicle in India and the second in the brand's planned SUV assault.
Bookings for the Grand Vitara, available for a nominal fee of Rs 11,000, have already surpassed 55,000 units, with a waiting period of up to five and a half months.
| Variant | Price ||:------------:|:---------------:|| Sigma MT | Rs. 10.45 lakhs || Delta MT | Rs. 11.90 lakhs || Zeta MT | Rs. 13.89 lakhs || Delta AT | Rs. 13.40 lakhs || Zeta AT | Rs. 15.39 lakhs || Alpha MT | Rs. 15.39 lakhs || Alpha AT | Rs. 16.89 lakhs || Alpha MT AWD | Rs. 16.89 lakhs |
| Variant | Price ||:----------:|:------------:|| Zeta Plus | Rs. 17 lakhs || Alpha Plus | Rs. 18 lakhs |
The Grand Vitara also comes in dual-tone color options on the top-tier Alpha, Zeta+, and Alpha+ trims, which cost an extra Rs 16,000 each. The SUV is also available through Maruti Suzuki Subscribe for an all-inclusive monthly membership price beginning at Rs. 27,000.
Maruti Suzuki is giving a unique introduction package with the strong-hybrid models, which includes an extended warranty of 5 years/1,000,000 km (up from the regular 2 year/40,000 km) and a genuine Nexa accessory pack worth more than Rs 67,000.
Importantly, as previously noted, the mild-hybrid models of the Grand Vitara are Rs 20,000 less than the Toyota Hyryder. Meanwhile, the Hyryder is Rs 50,000 more expensive than the powerful hybrid models. This is because each manufacturer has taken use of its own technology, with Suzuki providing a mild-hybrid system and Toyota providing a strong-hybrid system.
The Grand Vitara's main selling feature is its engine options, which it shares with the Hyryder. The 103 hp, 1.5-liter K15C petrol mild-hybrid engine, which currently powers a number of Maruti Suzuki vehicles, is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. And, as with the Hyryder, AWD is only available with the top-tier mild-hybrid manual option. Maruti claims a manual version economy of 21.11kpl, an automatic variant efficiency of 20.58kpl, and a manual AWD variant efficiency of 19.38kpl.
The Grand Vitara also has a Toyota-sourced 92hp, 1.5-litre, three-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine linked to a 79hp and 141Nm electric motor. The hybrid powerplant produces 115hp when combined and is mated with an e-CVT transmission. This powertrain is said to be efficient at 27.97kpl by Maruti.
The front appearance of the Grand Vitara distinguishes it from the Toyota Hyryder. The Grand Vitara's front fascia has a big, chrome-lined hexagonal grille, three-point LED daytime running lights, a bumper-mounted primary headlight cluster, and a hefty dose of body cladding, similar to the Suzuki S-Cross marketed abroad.
The side body panels, tailgate, and even the rear bumper with integrated taillights are all the same as on the Hyryder. However, the Maruti has a chrome appliqué on the C-pillar, a distinct design for the alloy wheels, and a full-width LED light bar on the tailgate.
The inside of the Grand Vitara is comparable to that of the Hyryder, with the only notable change being the color choices. Both receive the same steering wheel, which may also be seen on other, newer Maruti Suzuki cars. Both SUVs use the same touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster, and switchgear.
Top-spec Grand Vitara models have a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ambient lighting, linked car technology, ESP, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, and six airbags.
The Grand Vitara joins a crowded and expanding midsize SUV sector that includes well-known competitors such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Nissan Kicks, and, of course, its cousin, the Toyota Hyryder.
