Suzuki, a Japanese carmaker, plans to offer six new electric vehicles in our market by the end of FY2030. The company has also produced a teaser, confirming that Jimny & Fronx-inspired electric vehicles would be sold in Indian market. Furthermore, the teaser shows that the Maruti Wagon-R electric version is still in the works.

For those who are unaware, Maruti Suzuki has been testing an all-electric Wagon R hatchback on Indian roads since 2018. According to reports, MSIL has cancelled its intentions to introduce the Wagon-R EV. It appears that the corporation is now ready to launch the electrified tall-boy hatchback, which will compete with the Tata Tiago EV. The Tiago EV has a starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Within a few days, it had over 10,000 bookings.

Maruti Suzuki, in collaboration with Toyota, is establishing local battery production to save costs. The electric Wagon-R is expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakh, making it a direct competitor to the Tata Tiago EV. The preview shows that the Wagon R EV looks almost exactly like the Japanese-spec vehicle. It is planned to have a range of roughly 300 kilometers on a single charge, similar to the Tiago EV (claimed 315km range).

Maruti Suzuki has officially declared that its first electric car would be available in our market in 2024-25. It will be built on Toyota's 27PL platform, which is a more cost-effective version of the worldwide 40PL platform. The new electric vehicle will be a manufacturing version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX electric concept, which debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo.

Suzuki is also working on an electric version of the Jimny lifestyle SUV, which will most likely have two motors - one for the front axle and one for the back axle. Furthermore, MSIL is expected to substantially alter the HEARTECT platform, which might be utilised to produce the Suzuki Fronx-based electric crossover and the Wagon R EV.
