Mahindra expands Thar's production capacity, launching the family-friendly five-door Thar Roxx on 15 August to compete in the SUV market.

Mahindra Increases Thar Production to Prepare for Five-Door Thar Roxx Launch

Mahindra has officially announced an expansion of its Thar production capacity, preparing for the anticipated high demand for the upcoming five-door Thar Roxx SUV. Currently, Mahindra produces an average of 5,500 Thar units every month. With the new expansion, the automaker plans to add an additional 4,000 units per month to its production line.

By the end of the fiscal year 2025, Mahindra aims to reach an exit capacity of 640,000 units annually. This ambitious target includes the Thar family contributing over 11% of the total projected volumes for petrol and diesel vehicles. This would position the Thar as the fourth-largest contributor to Mahindra's overall production, following the Bolero family, XUV3XO, and the Scorpio N SUV.

The Thar Roxx, set to launch on 15 August, will address a significant gap in Mahindra's lineup by offering a five-door boxy SUV. Unlike the three-door Thar and the three-row-only Scorpio SUV, the Thar Roxx will cater to families with its spacious and practical design. It will utilize the same engine and underpinnings as the three-door model but tuned similarly to the Scorpio N.

A key selling point for the Thar Roxx will be its extensive feature list and the addition of two more doors, making it a more family-friendly option. This new model is expected to compete with popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, and the upcoming Tata Curvv.

Mahindra's expansion and the launch of the Thar Roxx indicate the company's commitment to meeting market demands and solidifying its position in the competitive SUV segment.
