Skoda Auto has finally revealed the name of their upcoming mid-size car in SUV segment this Thursday, which will be the first product under the India 2.0 Project. It has been finally named as “Kushaq”. Kushaq is quite a unique name which was derived from a Sanskrit word that means King or Emperor. The new Kushaq signifies its 125 years of history and heritage. The Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, Zac Hollis said that Skoda Kushaq will come with a combination of peerless performance, customer’s safety, superior build quality, as well as, timeless design ideas. The mid-segment mini SUV will compete with cars like Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Hyundai Creta, along with a few other upcoming ones.
The Skoda Kushaq is expected to be in two variants, which are manual and automatic transmission options with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This will be the first product which is based on MQB A0 IN. This new platform MQB A0 IN is imitative of the Volkswagen Group MQB platform. This platform is being developed for growing markets, with India being the focus. This project will be mainly led by Skoda but will also be used by Volkswagen. This will be launched in the Indian market at competitive prices.
During Auto Expo 2020, Skoda Auto India disclosed the vision IN concept which is the latest design technology followed by Skoda globally. The images also showed L shaped LED tail lamps along with 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The 1.0-litre TSI engine is set to offer 110 hp power and 175 Nm Torque, whereas, there are chances that the higher versions could be powered by a 1.5-litre Turbo petrol engine which would provide 150 hp power and 250Nm of torque.
The 1.0-litre petrol engine will have 6-speed manual gearbox and a 1.5-litre petrol engine will have 7 speed DSG Transmission. The price segment will range for Rs.10-16 lakhs which will be the top contender for the mid-range SUV that is available in the Indian market. Skoda has given importance to their customer’s safety with features like automatic climate control, multiple airbags. tyre pressure monitoring system, hill climb assist along with ABS and EBD etc. Kushaq has been focusing on its dimensions for customer comfort, which has been finally set as 4256mm long along with a height of 1589mm and a wheelbase of 2671mm.
