Uncover details about the EV9's global flagship status, its battery and powertrain options, and its anticipated launch in India.

Kia EV9 is expected to launch in 2024 | Key Details and Strategy

Kia, the renowned South Korean automotive brand, has announced its plans to bring the highly anticipated EV9, its flagship electric SUV, to the Indian market next year. Earlier this year, the EV9 was showcased in concept form at Auto Expo 2023, and the production-spec version made its global debut in March 2023.

Three-Row Cabin and Diverse Seating Options

In India, the Kia EV9 will sit above the EV6, another electric offering from the brand. The EV9 boasts a spacious three-row cabin and offers various seating layouts to suit different preferences. With this configuration, Kia aims to cater to the needs of larger families or those who prioritize ample passenger space.

RWD, AWD, and Multiple Range Options

The EV9 will be available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. Additionally, customers will have the option to choose from multiple range options, depending on their desired driving range and battery capacity. Kia has not yet disclosed the range figures for the top-spec EV9 AWD model.

Expanding Market Share

Kia India has recently unveiled its transformative strategy called "Kia 2.0," which outlines the brand's ambitious goal of capturing a 10 percent market share in the fiercely competitive Indian market in the coming years. As part of this strategy, Kia plans to introduce more models, including the EV9, and significantly increase its touchpoints to around 600, aiming to boost its sales volume and market presence in the country.

Designed under Karim Habib's Stewardship

Globally, the EV9 holds the distinction of being Kia's flagship model among electric SUVs. It represents Kia's most expensive and largest electric offering to date.

Notably, the EV9 is the first Kia vehicle designed entirely under the guidance of renowned former BMW stylist, Karim Habib. The SUV features a bold, upright design with distinctive styling elements that are gradually being incorporated into other Kia models.

Battery, Powertrain, and Range Options

Internationally, the EV9 is available with three powertrain choices. The range starts with the EV9 RWD, equipped with a 76.1kWh battery. Next in line is the EV9 RWD long-range variant, which features a larger 99.8kWh battery. The top-spec EV9 AWD model comes with dual electric motors, although Kia has yet to reveal the range figure for this variant.

India Launch and Expected Pricing

When the EV9 launches in India, it will become the most expensive offering in Kia's lineup. It will compete with the likes of the BMW iX in certain markets. Given the pricing of the fully imported BMW iX in India, starting above Rs 1 crore, it is anticipated that the EV9 will be priced similarly.

The SUV will be available in limited numbers as a fully imported model, following the same approach as its German rival. Additionally, Kia is expected to introduce the all-new Carnival MPV and the Sonet facelift in the Indian market next year alongside the EV9.
