The Jimny 5-door has been recently spotted in India and images of the spy test have been leaked online. The car is anticipated to have a new 1.5-liter K15C petrol engine.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV's long-awaited 5-door body style has finally been spotted, and certain images have been leaked of the SUV on Indian soil. Additionally, we can confirm that the made-for-India Maruti Suzuki Jimny will make its premiere in January during the next Auto Expo 2023.
Although the Jimny 5-door was recently seen testing in Europe, the discovery of a test mule in India may indicate that this model is headed our way.
Although the Jimny 3-door is already produced in India for export markets, until today neither the 3-door nor the 5-door variant of the SUV had ever been spotted in camouflage or without it. The test mule also has the standard Maruti Suzuki test registration plates that were used throughout the testing phases of other Maruti models. The totally covered mule might also conceal the Jimny's much-anticipated redesign, which could make its debut on the five-door model initially.
While interior modifications aren't anticipated to be significant, the second row should have extra room, the upholstery should have a new texture, and the current Jimny sold abroad will have a larger 9-inch touchscreen rather than its smaller 7-inch counterpart.
And unlike the left-hand drive type that was seen in Europe, the model seen in India is a right-hand drive unit. Because it was exclusively intended for export, the made-in-India Jimny was only ever produced in left-hand drive configuration.
The 1.5-liter DualJet K15C engine from Maruti will most likely power the Jimny, and the five-door version may be its first appearance. The K15B power unit used in the three-door Jimny marketed outside of India has been superseded by the K15C. Both the five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions are compatible with a manually driven transfer case for usage with four-wheel drive, just like the Thar.
The new Jimny will compete with the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha, both of which will soon be offered in 5-door configurations, and will be sold through Maruti Suzuki's Nexa shops. All three SUVs may make their formal appearances somewhere in the coming year, following which they will all go on sale.
