Ahead of its launch at the 2023 January International Auto Show, The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover has been on display in India. Bookings for the South Korean automaker's new flagship model are now open.

Ioniq 5 from Hyundai: pricing

The Ioniq 5 will be produced in India, as opposed to its cousin, the Kia EV6, which is fully imported into India. Hyundai aims to price the model under Rs 50 lakh, making it a little more affordable than the Kia (Rs 59.96 lakh). The difference in customs duty between a completely constructed unit (CBU) and a completely knocked down (CKD) car in India is the cause of the price disparity.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 engine specifications

Although Hyundai hasn't yet provided any information regarding the powertrain, it is anticipated to come with either a 58kWh or a 72.6kWh battery, giving it a range of 383km for the former and 481km for the latter based on the official test cycle. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the Ioniq 5 are offered; the smaller battery produces 170 horsepower with the former and 233 horsepower with the latter. The Ioniq 5's output with the larger battery is 217 horsepower in rear-wheel drive and 305 horsepower in all-wheel drive, respectively. Additionally, the Ioniq 5 can enable ultra-rapid 800V charging, which can complete a battery charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

At the 2019 Frankfurt auto show, the Ioniq 5 received its first public preview as the 45 EV concept. The final production model closely follows the retro-futuristic design language of the concept. Along with the World Design of the Year and World Electric Car of the Year prizes, it was named the 2022 World Car of the Year.

Sharp lines, smooth surfaces, and an SUV-like attitude are hallmarks of the Ioniq 5's vintage design, which also features dramatically sloped windscreens. The 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels have a turbine-like shape, while the front and rear lights have a pixelated appearance.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: features and interior

The basic design of the Ioniq 5's interior is highlighted by its flat floor, adjustable seats, and movable centre console. Hyundai has upholstered its vehicles with eco-friendly leather and fabrics manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. The crash pads, switches, steering wheels, and door pads have all been painted with bio-paint.

The Ioniq 5 features a head-up display with augmented reality features, ADAS, and a pair of 12-inch touchscreens for the instrument cluster.
