Throughout the next two years, the brand plans to release seven models from this series, with three of them making their premiere in 2023.
At a ceremony earlier today in Hangzhou, China's Geely Motors formally introduced the new Galaxy electrified car premium brand.
The automaker has high expectations for the new vehicle line, which will have four long-range plug-in hybrids and three battery electric cars, for a total of seven extremely efficient models over the next two years.
Two vehicles were showcased at the event:
the totally electric Galaxy Light concept and the production-model Galaxy L7 plug-in hybrid SUV. The Galaxy L7 SUV and an unnamed L6 sedan, both plug-in hybrids, will debut first in the second and third quarters of 2023, respectively.
Regarding the all-electric models, the Galaxy E8 flagship, which is due for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2023, will be the first to arrive. Although Geely didn't state it directly, the stunning Galaxy Light concept probably serves as a preview of the new brand's first production electric vehicle.
The Galaxy series is reported to incorporate Geely's worldwide automotive development resources, with the PHEV models using the E-CMA platform and the BEV vehicles using a dedicated smart electrified architecture that is likely derived from the SEA EV platform.
The Galaxy models from Geely will have a futuristic new design language made especially for the company. None of the cars has Geely badges; instead, they have a logo that resembles the Geometry sub-brand and is made up of six white squares stacked in two horizontal rows.
With a front butterfly door and rear doors that open from the rear, the Geely Light is a stunning fastback that resembles the Porsche Taycan.
Highlights of the technologically advanced interior include a sizable display that almost completely fills the dashboard, cutting-edge mood lighting, and translucent materials.
The enormous touchscreen is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8155 vehicle chip, which also powers the Galaxy N-OS, a brand-new smart car operating system.
The operating system, according to Geely, has "the fastest system startup and response time in its class, taking only 0.5 seconds to reach a ready operational state."
Geely Holding Company anticipates launching its 72-satellite constellation by 2025, giving Galaxy models comprehensive global coverage for "centimetre accurate precision location" and "high-precision maps to assist in intelligent driving capability."
Geely also offered information at the event regarding the most recent NordThor Hybrid 8848 powertrain, which has a peak thermal efficiency of 44.26 per cent.
The dedicated hybrid engine is claimed to increase fuel efficiency over Geely's current PHEVs by up to 15% when coupled with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and equipped with the first predictive energy management system in the industry.
With a full tank of petrol, the Galaxy L7 SUV's powertrain is predicted to achieve a real-world fuel consumption of 5.23 litres per 100 kilometres (45 mpg US), allowing for a range of 1,370 kilometres (851 miles); details on the pure electric battery range will be released later.
