Force Motors, India's largest van manufacturer, is stepping up its game in the market with the Urbania. The Urbania, which will be available in a month, was presented to a small group of dealers on November 21. Force Motors has already begun manufacture of the Urbania, and the first batch of Vans will be available at dealerships within the next two weeks.
Urbania, codenamed T1N, was developed with a Rs 1,000 crore investment and is India's first totally ground-up, modular monocoque panel van platform, according to Force Motors. This product was shown at the 2020 Auto Expo, but the debut was postponed due to the Covid epidemic and its cascade impact. Select dealer principals from India and overseas were invited to the facility and given the opportunity to test drive the Van.
The next generation shared mobility platform was created with global goals in mind. It is design protected for use in specific Middle Eastern, African, ASEAN, and South American regions where the van is intended to offer a high value proposition in comparison to high premium items from Europe, the Far East, and the United States.
Even though current Indian regulations does not require them, the Urbania is the first car in this category to offer crash and rollover compliance with air bags for the driver and co-driver. Furthermore, it has large, ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels, as well as ESP, ABS, EBD, and ETDC for its passengers' safety.
According to the company, it has independent front suspension with transverse springs for improved passenger ride and handling.
The Van has passenger car characteristics such as daytime running DRLs, projector headlamps, and distinctive tail lights that use light guidance technology.
It includes an ergonomically built cockpit, a car-like steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column, and is the first in its class to have all-wheel disc brakes, ESP, ABS, EBD, and ETDC, according to the firm.
The Force Motors team working on Urbania extensively consulted with leading technology specialists and domain experts from around the world, including Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and the United States, to improve, refine, and validate this platform made in India to meet international performance expectations.
The Urbania platform was developed with a two-box architecture that keeps the engine completely outside, resulting in less NVH in the passenger cabin. For the first time in this sector, independent front suspension with transverse springs is available, providing the highest ride quality in class.
The proven Mercedes-derived 115 hp, BS6 compliant Common Rail Diesel engine provides peak torque of 350 Nm over a wide range of 1,400 to 2,200 rpm.
