Elon Musk has recently tweeted, "the Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to function momentarily as a boat." Its been three years and cybertruck hasn't been officially introduced into the market.

Elon Musk says, "Tesla Cybertruck Will Cross Rivers, Lakes And Even Seas"

The Tesla Cybertruck can't arrive fast enough—probably that's an understatement considering the three years that have elapsed since the EV maker stunned the world with the debut of the bizarre electric pickup idea.

Tesla has frequently postponed the debut of the production Cybertruck, with mid-2023 being the most recent estimate for the commencement of manufacture at Gigafactory Texas. There have been several stories regarding the Cybertruck over the last year, indicating that Tesla is hastening its preparations for the commencement of manufacturing and delivery.

For example, at the Cyber Rodeo event, we saw the production-ready Beta prototype and discovered that the design had been completed. We also learned about some fascinating vehicle features, as well as the fact that pricing and specifications would differ from those published in November 2019.

Elon Musk has now revealed (through Twitter, no less) that the Cybertruck will be able to "function momentarily as a boat."

Musk tweeted on September 29, "Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren't too choppy," He then further said that the electric pickup "needs (to) be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel."

Normally, that's a 40-mile journey on paved roads, but it's just around 6.5 miles across the South Bay on water (as measured on Google Maps). Is Elon Musk really implying that the Cybertruck would be able to float on water for such a long distance? If that's the case, how will it get across the bay? In boat mode, how fast can we anticipate the Cybertruck to go?

Tesla's CEO did not respond to any of these queries, but the Twitter thread he started was quickly swamped with them, many from reservation holders wondering when the Cybertruck will actually go into production.

From the outside, Tesla's mid-2023 timetable looks plausible, given that the Gigafactory Texas is operational and a reported Cybertruck-specific Giga Press from IDRA was just installed at the facility.

Elon Musk had stated that development of the Cybertruck will be completed this year, and production would begin with a Quad-Motor version of the truck, which would add one motor to the previous highest trim level, the Tri-Motor. But, given how many times the Cybertruck has been delayed, reservation holders are unlikely to hold their breath for a 2023 debut.
