The Delhi government has unveiled a drive to put 5,000 kerbside charging stations in place by 2025. These stations would be available to electric two- and three-wheelers around-the-clock. This initiative, which intends to have electric car charging stations on all main public highways, will be supervised by the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission. Given the lack of parking in the metropolis, it is unclear whether this ban would be extended to four-wheelers.

  • An initiative to establish 100 charging stations in Delhi.
  • India has for now, only 1,742 charging stations across the country.

The practise of charging automobiles at roadside kerbs with wired connections through lampposts or specific charging stations is known as "kerbside charging" and is used all around the world. In India, kerbside charging will make advantage of substation locations and streetlamp posts that have or are near locations for street parking. This idea is applied in San Francisco and London, where close to 50% of customers charge their cars overnight using kerbside charging stations.

The trial will begin with 100 charging stations before being expanded throughout the nation's capital's 1,400 km of roads. Despite having one of the greatest road networks in the world, Delhi also has roughly one lakh streetlamp fixtures that might be used to start kerbside charging. In India, there are presently more than 30 companies that produce EV equipment, the largest of which is Tata Power, which has more than 300 EV charging stations operating at the moment.
