Mercedes-Benz has dispatched a team of experts to investigate the car crash of the Late Mr. Cyrus Mystry that occurred near Thane, Maharashtra. A team of three-person experts will submit their findings to Mercedes-Benz India.
Tycoon Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole both died in a car accident. Meanwhile, to conduct additional investigation, Mercedes-Benz has sent a team of technical experts from Hong Kong to India. On Tuesday, a three-person team of experts from Hong Kong traveled to the scene of the accident near Thane, Maharashtra, and they will soon present their findings to Mercedes Benz India.
"A team of three experts has landed in Mumbai from Hong Kong. They will start the inspection work on Tuesday in the presence of a police officer. The final report with all findings about the car accident will be submitted to the police by the car company after a couple of days", said the Palghar Superintendent of Police, Balasaheb Patil regarding the expert's visit and investigation.
Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole were passengers in the Mercedes Benz GLC luxury SUV when it crashed. Mr. Mistry and Jehangir Pandole were both not wearing seatbelts, which is said to have resulted in blunt force injuries that killed both of them on the spot. Anahita Mody Pandole, a Mumbai-based gynecologist, drove the SUV, and her husband Darius Pandole, the CEO of JM Financial, sat in the front passenger seat. Darius and Anahita Pandole were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and survived. They are now being treated for their injuries in a Mumbai hospital. The four people in the car were on their way back from the Parsi Fire Temple in Udvada, Gujarat, where they'd gone to perform rituals for their deceased family members.
The death of Cyrus Mistry has brought attention to road safety. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Transport, has announced that rear seatbelts will soon become mandatory for passengers sitting in the back seat and that the government is working on an amendment to make this a law. Mr. Gadkari has also cracked down on seat-belt alarms disabling buckles sold on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Going a step further, the minister has announced that the seat-belt reminder warning chime will now be standard in all vehicles, including the back seat. Until now, the seatbelt reminder warning chime was only required on the front seats of the car.
While the government is working to improve passenger safety in India, Mr. Mistry's crash and the relentless media coverage that followed has raised awareness about the importance of wearing seatbelts in cars. The seatbelt is the primary restraint system in a car, and it is responsible for keeping passengers in their seats during a crash, preventing serious whiplash and blunt force injuries like the ones that killed Mr. Mistry. Airbags, or supplemental restraint systems, are only supposed to deploy if seatbelts are worn. As a result, it is critical to wear seatbelts every time one enters a vehicle.
