Women have proven their mettle in every aspect of the Indian auto industry, from executive positions to the shop floor. In a recent development, Tata Motors stated that its flagship SUVs, the Harrier and Safari, are being produced by an all-female workforce.
Both of these SUVs were put together by a hardworking group of 1,500 women experts. Each month, Tata Motors sells about 2000 units of both models, and when its recently purchased Ford manufacturing facility starts operating early next year, it will also employ women on the shop floor.
Even MG Motor India just produced its 50,000th Hector at its Vadodara facility with an all-female staff. Women led the end-to-end manufacturing, according to the firm, which claimed that the project set a new bar while celebrating diversity. The sheet metal panel pressing, welding, painting, and post-production test runs were all handled by the female crews.
Women's empowerment goes beyond encouraging their presence in boardrooms and limiting them to exclusively white-collar jobs. While the goal is to develop a more holistic workplace culture and spread their coverage across businesses and hierarchies, it will only benefit a small portion of society. Companies like Hero MotoCorp, MG Motor India, and Tata Motors have been striving toward maintaining gender balance in the Indian car sector.
