Latest Update: Tata Blackbird is said to be the rumored codename of an under development SUV from Tata Motors. The SUV is said to be a joint development of India's Tata Motors and China's Chery Motors. The Chery Tiggo was likely the car that was to be re-engineered for Indian market by Tata Motors.
Under this project, Chery had plans to enter the Indian market with Tata Motors as its local partner. Moreover, it was likely to provide its Tiggo SUV to Tata Motors for testing, evaluation, and technology demonstration.
However, this project was called off a long back and there's no vehicle under development under this project. Therefore, the Blackbird is just an internet rumor and no car will ever be launched under this name.
Tata Blackbird is the codename of a Tata SUV that is rumored to be under development. However, there has been no news or update about this Tata SUV since a very long time. If ever launched, it will be the flagship product from the house of Tata.
Design & Exterior
If launched, the Tata Blackbird will come with Tata's new design language i.e. IMPACT 2.0, and will get futuristic design elements like connected LED light bar in the front and rear. Moreover, as Tata has gone with the 19 inch alloys in the new Safari facelift, the Blackbird might also get a 19 inch or an even larger 20 inch alloys.
Features & Safety
Tata Blackbird will come with all the latest safety and tech features like camera + radar based level 2 ADAS, larger infotainment touchscreen and drivers displays, premium sound system, multi zone climate control AC, etc. Moreover, we expect it to be based on Tata's OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) Architecture that is derived from Land Rover's D8 platform. And thus, we expect it to be another 5 star rated SUV from Tata just like the Harrier and Safari.
Segment and Rivals
As Tata now already has Harrier and Safari in the sub 30 lakh price segment, we expect the Blackbird to be placed in the 30 lakh plus price segment. Therefore, it will sit above the current Tata Safari as the brand's flagship SUV. It might rival the likes of Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan, MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, etc.
