Royal Enfield has launched the updated Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in India with a bunch of new upgrades. The new models feature LED headlight, alloy wheels, USB charging, rotary switches and new colours. The prices range from Rs 3,03,000 to Rs 3,31,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Introduction
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a modern retro-style roadster that draws inspiration from its iconic namesake from the 1960s. It is one of the first modern big bikes from Royal Enfield in India, along with its cafe racer sibling, the Continental GT 650. The Interceptor 650 offers a perfect balance of style and performance, with a classic British roadster look and a splash of sun-soaked California .
Variant and Color
It is offered in seven variants (primarily colour-based): Cali Green and Canyon Red variants come at a cost of Rs 3,03,000.
The Black Pearl and Sunset Strip colours come priced at Rs 3,11,000, whereas the new Black Ray and Barcelona Blue variants with alloy wheels cost Rs 3,21,000.
The top-of-the-line chromed out Mark 2 variant is priced at Rs 3,31,000 (prices ex-showroom Delhi). The new colours are inspired by the 1970s era of the Interceptor.
Engine and Power
The Interceptor 650 is powered by Royal Enfield's legendary parallel twin cylinder engine, which is air/oil-cooled and has a displacement of 648cc. It produces a maximum power of 47.4 PS at 7150 RPM and a peak torque of 52.3 Nm at 5250 RPM. It is paired to a six-speed gearbox with an assist-and-slipper clutch for smooth shifting and reduced wheel hop.
Fuel Efficiency and Tank Capacity
The Interceptor 650 has a fuel tank capacity of 13.7 litres, which gives it a decent range for touring. The claimed fuel efficiency of the bike is around 25 kmpl, but it may vary depending on riding conditions and style. The user reported mileage of the bike is around 23 kmpl .
Features
The Interceptor 650 comes with a twin-pod analogue instrument console with a digital inset that displays odometer, dual trip-meter readings and fuel level.
Some versions feature an all-LED headlight and alloy wheels, while others get a halogen unit and spoke wheels as standard. Apart from LED headlight and alloys, the Black Ray and Barcelona Blue colour variants also feature USB-charging and rotary switches for easy operation.
The bike also comes with standard dual-channel ABS for safety.
It has a laid back riding stance by employing an easy-to-reach braced handlebar, mid-set footpegs, and a bench-type seat . It also has a tubular grab-rail for the pillion passenger.
Wheel Size and Weight
The Interceptor 650 rolls on 18-inch wheels, which are either spoke or alloy depending on the variant. The wheels are wrapped in Ceat Zoom Cruz tyres, which have a size of 100/90-18 at the front and 130/70-18 at the rear. The bike has a kerb weight of 218 kg, which makes it slightly heavy for its segment . However, it has a low seat height of 804 mm, which makes it accessible for most riders.

The Interceptor 650 competes with other retro-styled middleweight bikes in the market, such as the Kawasaki W800 Street, Honda CB350RS, Jawa Forty Two and Benelli Imperiale 400.
