Petrol and CNG cars are gaining popularity against diesel cars. With the strict emission norms in action here, various manufacturers have stopped making diesel engines and petrol cars with CNG have become a hot choice. While petrol engines are usually 1.5 times less fuel-efficient than diesel engines, they can be fed with CNG to gain a mileage more than diesel engines. With that said, we have come up with a list of the best petrol sedans in India which you can purchase in 2021. Few of these cars get a company fitted CNG kit while others can have a CNG system in the aftermarket from an authorised CNG centre.Let's get into the list:
1. Honda City
Honda City has been a dream car for many of us. This car became the foundation for Honda cars in India. It is now in its 5th generation and has surpassed sales figures in its segment. Honda City gets a 1.5-litre iVTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine. It churns out 121PS of power with 145Nm of torque. This engine is very refined and powerful. It has a very good low and middle-end grunt while the high end is quite flat. So, if you are an occasional highway cruiser, you’ll find this car very interesting for your purpose. Honda City gets 2 transmission options; a 6-speed manual and CVT. Though the CVT gets the option of paddle shifters, its rubber band effect makes the manual one more fun to drive option.
2. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the most popular vehicle in the compact sedan segment. Its engine is quite dynamic and works great on petrol and CNG fuel without getting any lag. Maruti Suzuki Dzire is in its 3rd generation and doing great on the sales chart. It gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is capable of churning out 88PS of power with 113Nm of torque. It is a very refined unit and does duty in several other Maruti vehicles as well. It comes paired with a manual or AMT transmission. If you are residing in a metro city and take out your car on a daily basis, you’ll love to have this car in AMT. The engine is strong and runs very well on CNG as well, however, you may have to get the CNG kit fitted additionally into it.
3. Honda Amaze
Honda Amaze is one of the most successful vehicles after Honda City from the Japanese brand. It was first introduced in 2013 and brought Honda’s first diesel engine in India. However, Honda has always been a master of petrol engines and they know how a low spec engine can perform like a boss. Honda Amaze has a 1.2-litre iVTEC petrol engine which is powering other Honda vehicles as well including Honda Jazz, Honda WRV, and now discontinued Honda Brio. It comes with either a manual transmission or a CVT. The CVT is a breeze in tier 1 cities’ traffic conditions and comes with paddle shifters. If you are planning to fit in a CNG kit in the car, we would recommend you to go for manual transmission. You can expect a mileage of 16-17 kmpl with petrol.
4. Hyundai Aura
Hyundai Aura arrived with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that does duty in Grand i10, i20, Grand i10 Nios and Xcent. This engine is very economical and has decent performance as well. Later on, Hyundai decided to bless it with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which is a more powerful unit and does duty in Hyundai Venue, Grand i10 Nios, new i20, and Kia Sonet. This engine is available in different states of tuning in all these vehicles and the Aura gets 100PS of power with 170Nm of torque. You get a company fitted CNG kit in this car which makes your driving cost much lower than any other car in the segment. The car’s lighter weight is well suited for this engine and keeps the driver happy during overtakes and in need of sudden power surge. This car gets an abundance of features inside the car and a comfortable cabin for longer sitting hours.
**5. Skoda Rapid **
Skoda is known for the quality of their products and Rapid is one of the brilliant products they manufactured. This car is a driver’s delight. Though the prices of this car fall between 10 and 13 lakhs, Skoda has introduced an affordable version of this car with the Rapid Rider. This variant gets all the bells and whistles except a few ones. Steering mounted audio controls, projector lights, alloy wheels and fog lamps are a few of the prominent things which are missing in this car compared to the upper variants. It gets all the safety features and the robust structure to keep you safe.Skoda Rapid Rider gets a 1-litre TSI engine which is a superb combination of power and nearness. The engine generates 109PS of power and 175Nm of torque. This car offers you choices between 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter units. Unlike other manufacturers, both the transmissions are robust and deliver good performance. You can expect 13-15KMPl of mileage from this car.So which car got your interest? Is it the hot-selling Maruti Suzuki Dzire which comes with rock-solid reliability and easy maintenance or you’d like to go with a driver-friendly Skoda rapid Rider? Let us know in the comments and we’ll help you get the right car as per your needs.
