Tata has released a new edition for their compact SUV Tata Punch, named Tata Punch Kaziranga edition is a car to pay tribute to the national biodiversity parks of India.
As per Tata’s official website, this new Tata Punch edition will have exclusive interior and exterior features. The Kaziranga Edition is introduced to pay homage to India’s great national parks. Quoting the exact words on the Tata Motors website, “this special edition stands out from the crowd while reinforcing the ‘Go-Anywhere’ DNA of a true SUV.
Inspired by India’s wealthy geographical and biological diversity, Tata recently introduced “The Untamed Kaziranga Editions” for their SUV segment. The new edition was teased to the audience via a tweet.
Now that Tata has rolled out the Kaziranga edition for their SUV segment with Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, and Tata Nexon along with Tata Punch getting an update to their predecessors, the question should be, what is new in this edition?
Well for one Tata Punch micro-SUV will be the first one to be based on ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. To differentiate between the Kaziranga edition and the regular variant, the new Punch comes in with a grassland beige exterior body color with a dual-tone roof combined with a Piano Black finish. The front face looks elegant and is highlighted by the Piano Black Humanity line front grill.
Adding to the uniqueness, the sides get Piano Black ORVMs, Satin Black Rhino mascot on front fenders, Granite Black claddings, body-colored door handles, and jet black diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels with a black tint.
Based on Tata Punch Creative and Creative iRA variants, the all-new Punch is feature-loaded with automatic projector headlamps and LED DRLs, roof rails, auto-folding ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, read wiper and washer, and many more. To add to the beauty of this vehicle and its uniqueness among the Kaziranga Edition, Punch is the only one to feature a black decal on the rear windscreen with a silhouette of single-horned Rhinoceros.
As for the interiors, the door has a 90-degree opening range, embossed sill plates, and the Earthly Beige dual-tone seats wrapped in premium Benecke Kaliko Leather gives this Micro-SUV a premium look. To add to the premium quotient, the center dashboard is highlighted by an Earthly Beige mid pad with a tri-arrow finish, Granite Black Wrap on steering and Gear Knob and the steering wheel featuring a Piano Black switch Bezel.
To add to the overall theme, the new edition gets Piano Black AC vents and door trims. The iRA connected tech is capable of taking remote commands, providing location-based services, vehicle security features, receiving over-the-air updates, Gamification, and live vehicle diagnosis. Although some features have been carried forward from the regular top spec-variant, such as seven-inch TFT instrument cluster, cooled glove box, puddle lamps, and rear seat armrest.
Inside the hood is a new-gen 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that produces 84bhp at 6000rpm and 113Nm torque at 3300rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual and AMT option. To add, the vehicle offers two engine drive modes( Eco and City) to specifically meet the individual demand. Moreover, the AMT option gets the first in segment ‘Traction Pro-Mode’ which definitely would be helpful if one of the wheels is stuck in mud or low traction surfaces. For added comfort and convenience the vehicle offers cruise control and Idle Start-Stop mode, which turns the engine off while in traffic or at signals, and that in turn enhances the fuel efficiency.
The Tata Punch sports dual airbags, ABS with EBD (Electronic Braking Distribution), and corner safety control. Additionally, the vehicle has a front fog lamp with a cornering function, child seat ISOFIX anchor points, parametric alarm system, tyre puncture repair kit, driver and co-driver sear belt reminders, reverse parking camera system. Interestingly, the Punch comes with first-in-segment, Brake Sway Control, which comes into action in case of abrupt braking and detects the tendency of instability.
If we talk in monetary terms, the Punch Kaziranga edition is just Rs.20,000 over from the regular Punch predecessor and you would be getting some good updates and features that were not available in regular models previously. With just a minimal difference, the Punch Kaziranga is going to dominate the Micro-SUV segments and compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 NiOS.
Tata Punch Kaziranga Edition price starts at Rs.8.58 lakh.
