At the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo, the biggest automaker in India will unveil its first all-electric model, dubbed YY8. It will serve as the company's 2023 hero idea, much like Future-S did in 2018 and Futuro-e did in 2020
Maruti EV, which is anticipated to debut in early 2025, will compete with Tata Motors and Mahindra's forthcoming EVs.
Even though it is late in the race, Maruti Suzuki seems to be finally sharpening its EV market focus. At the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo, the biggest automaker in India will unveil its first all-electric model, dubbed YY8. It will serve as the company's 2023 hero idea, much like Future-S did in 2018 and Futuro-e did in 2020
Suzuki's Gujarat production facility will produce the Maruti YY8. The EV will serve both home and foreign markets.
It is anticipated that around 50% of the production will be used for exporting. Toyota, which is expected to release its own rebadged version of the EV, is helping to build the YY8. specs for the Maruti YY8 electric SUV Maruti YY8 electric SUV will be available with 48 kWh and 59 kWh battery pack variants to better cater to a wider spectrum of people with various demands and preferences. The respective certified ranges are anticipated to be between 400 and 500 kilometres. A power output of between 138 and 170 horsepower is anticipated. There will be options for two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. AWD will be supplied in export markets, but its availability in domestic markets is uncertain.
Maruti's YY8 EV will feature LFP blade cells as opposed to Tata EVs' traditional LFP cylindrical cells. It will come from BYD, a renowned automaker with operations in China. According to proponents, blade cell technology is superior in terms of its weight, range, and space efficiency. A blade battery can give a greater range since more cells can be crammed into the allotted space.
Additionally, BYD asserts that blade batteries are far safer than other battery types. The nail penetration test was successful with a surface temperature range of 30 to 60 degrees. Other harsh testing, such as crushing, bending, overcharging, and heating the battery in a furnace, have also been carried out.Even then, according to BYD, no fires or explosions were seen.
The 27PL born-electric skateboard architecture, which is evolved from Toyota's 40PL worldwide platform, will serve as the foundation for Maruti's YY8 electric SUV. With a 2,700 mm wheelbase, it will have roomy cabins and enough space for a sizable battery pack. Short overhangs will be present on the YY8, in keeping with EV segment design trends. To maximise inside space, wheels will be positioned as close to the edges as possible. Maruti YY8's anticipated length is above 4.2 metres, which is nearly as long as Creta's 4.3 metres. Its futuristic styling will be unimaginable in Maruti's current line of vehicles.
By 2025, there will be a sizable number of competitors, therefore Maruti will make sure the YY8 has a wide variety of cutting-edge features. The Maruti YY8 electric SUV and its Toyota counterpart are anticipated to have launch prices between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The YY8 has the potential to become another Maruti bestseller at this price and with its feature set. By 2025, however, the competition will have substantially increased because Tata and Mahindra are also developing born-electric vehicles. This upcoming Maruti e-SUV will compete with models like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV400, and other current electric SUVs.Maruti will also display other models at the 2023 Auto Expo, including the 5-door Jimny and the YTB SUV (a Baleno-based coupe SUV cross). There will also be a flex fuel prototype from WagonR.
