Tata Car sales in December 2022 | Tata motors and its competitors

The company today reported sales of 40,043 units for the month of December, bringing the total for the previous 12 months to 526,798 units, or an average monthly sales volume of 43,899 units.

The firm, which sells seven EVs on the domestic market (Altroz, Tigor, Tiago, Nexon, Punch, Harrier, and Safari), has benefited from the increase in interest in its SUVs, particularly the Nexon and the Punch, which are currently the best-selling and Nos. 3 and 4 SUVs in India.

Tata Motors' first-mover advantage in the rapidly expanding electric car sector, where it holds a more than 80% market share, has also contributed to the company's acceleration of growth.

The business presently sells the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Xpres-T (for fleet buyers) in addition to the Tiago EV, which was just introduced and whose deliveries will start in January.

Tata Motors sold 41,538 electric vehicles in the calendar year 2022, making up 7.88% of the company's overall sales of 526,798 units.

In addition, Tata Motors became Hyundai India's main rival in that year. Tata Motors became India's second-largest automaker after first surpassing Hyundai in May and then again in December. Only 25,713 units separated the two automakers' 2022 sales differences.

Hyundai, however, was more adversely affected by the semiconductor shortage than Tata Motors, and now that the chip shortage has eased, the Korean automaker won't face supply issues that, in part, caused it to briefly lose the second rank to Tata Motors, according to automotive analysts. As a result, analysts predict that Hyundai will maintain a comfortable lead over Tata Motors in 2023.
