Bengaluru to Get South India's First EV Battery-Testing Facility

In a significant boost to India's electric vehicle (EV) industry, Bengaluru is set to establish South India's first dedicated EV battery-testing facility. Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi laid the foundation stone for the project on Thursday. The centre will be located on a one-acre site at the National Test House (NTH) within the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory campus in Jakkur.

A Game-Changer for South Indian EV Makers

This advanced testing centre, which comes with an investment of INR 15 crore, is poised to play an important role in the growing EV sector. It will mainly serve South Indian EV manufacturers by offering essential services related to battery efficiency, safety standards, and performance metrics. The facility is designed to ensure that locally produced batteries meet the highest levels of quality and safety, thereby supporting the region’s EV ecosystem.

"Bengaluru is thriving, especially in the EV sector. The facility will offer testing and certification services that guarantee top levels of quality and safety, providing significant support to manufacturers. We need more initiatives like this to accelerate the EV business," said Pralhad Joshi during the event.

Advanced Testing Abilities

The centre will be equipped with cutting-edge technology for comprehensive testing, including electrical safety, functional safety, climate tests (such as IP testing, UV radiation exposure, and corrosion resistance), and mechanical and material assessments (including flammability and glow wire tests). These capabilities are expected to set new standards in the Indian EV industry, ensuring that the batteries used in electric vehicles meet strict safety and performance benchmarks.

Boosting 'Make in India' and Local Manufacturing

Suresh Babu, Director of NTH, emphasized the centre's role in promoting the government's 'Make in India' initiative. "This testing service will be a major asset for local manufacturers, helping them demonstrate the quality of their products. With a team of experts dedicated to issuing certifications, we aim to enhance the credibility and marketability of Indian-made EV batteries," he stated.

Looking Ahead

As the EV industry continues to expand, this new centre in Bengaluru is expected to become a cornerstone for innovation and quality assurance in battery technology. It represents a vital step forward in India's transition to sustainable transportation and solidifies Bengaluru's position as a leading hub in the EV sector.

Now let’s focus on what Ford has revealed in Australia, a rugged SUV totally made for off-roading named Everest Tremor. This SUV is more powerful than the one we had in India the Endeavour Moniker.

Pricing and launch expectation in India

In Australia Ford Everest Tremor is priced at $83,303 which is roughly around ₹46.94 lakhs in Indian rupee. The main question is that if it comes to India, well it is likely to come as CBU (completely built unit) in 2025 or 2026. But the cost will be on the higher sides as it is not getting manufactured in India and taxes will be imposed.

Engine and Power

Let’s talk about the engine specifications of the Everest Tremor. It comes with a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine and of course with 4WD capability. In terms of performance it produces power of 250 bhp and torque of 600 Nm. All four wheels are powered by the 10-speed automatic transmission.
