FWD standard, optional AWD. 60 kWh battery, 500 km range.
In a strategic move to fortify its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, Tata Motors recently inaugurated two EV-specific dealerships in Gurugram, Uttar Pradesh. The company is gearing up to launch two new EVs, the Safari EV and Harrier EV, which are expected to elevate Tata.ev's position in the market, surpassing the recently launched Nexon EV.
Named Tata.ev, these exclusive dealerships and service centers aim to offer a curated experience for the EV buyers, emphasizing the eco-friendliness. The spotlight, however, is currently on the Safari EV and Harrier EV, as they were recently spotted on tow trucks in Pune city, heavily camouflaged.

Speculation arises as the test mules, adorned with pre-facelift bodies and designs, were seen en route on tow trucks. The customary appearance on tow trucks suggests a probable journey to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for testing and certification procedures, particularly regarding their range on a single charge.
This isn't the first time Tata Motors has opted for this discreet method, as a similar approach was observed with the Tata Punch EV test mule in May 2023.

The production versions of the Safari EV and Harrier EV are expected to sport updated designs showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The focus on the mechanical aspects, specifically the electrical systems, aligns with the ARAI testing and certification procedures.
Following the success of the Nexon EV, Tata Motors is likely to infuse the Safari EV and Harrier EV with additional features and equipment. Design revisions, including a closed grille and updated bumpers, are expected to establish a distinct fascia for the EV counterparts.
Anticipate the inclusion of blue elements both inside and outside, akin to the Nexon EV. As Tata Motors continues to lead the electric car scene in India with models like Tiago EV and Nexon EV, the market is gearing up for fierce competition with the arrival of new EVs.
The Safari EV and Harrier EV are positioned to compete with Mahindra’s upcoming XUV.e8. Additionally, Hyundai might also introduce an Alcazar EV based on the upcoming Creta EV to meet the growing demand. The Land Rover derived OMEGARC platform on the Safari and Harrier will be adapted to accommodate batteries for their EV counterparts.
Standard front-wheel drive (FWD) options will be complemented by the optional dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. Tata Motors is expected to offer a 60 kWh battery pack, promising a range of approximately 500 km on a single charge. Enthusiasts hope for an 80 kWh battery pack option to align with the evolving market demands.

With increasing test mule sightings, the launch of the Tata Safari EV and Harrier EV is anticipated in 2024. While pricing details are yet to be officially announced, estimates suggest a starting price of around Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom), reaching up to Rs. 35 lakh (ex-showroom) for top-end variants. Stay tuned for further updates as Tata Motors electrifies the market with its flagship EVs.
