Kiger vs. Urban Cruiser Comparison

Renault Kiger’s exuberance shows off in its stunning design as the vehicle grabs your attention when it whizzes past on the roads. This muscular SUV offers exciting dual-tone colour options along with exciting single-tone colour offerings. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is the youngest SUV in the Toyota assembly line. Hence, it gets a lot of love. At the same time, its upright stance and robust presence evoke respect. This commanding SUV is available in three trims branching out into six variants.

Exterior Looks

The first aspect that strikes you as you view the Kiger is its stunning range of colours. The dual-tone options look attractive because of the black skirting along the sides. It gels beautifully with the raised black wheel arches that extend to the front and rear bumpers. The tri-octa pure vision LED headlamps combine beautifully with the LED DRLs and make the car look attractive. The shark fin antenna and the rear spoiler make for sporty additions.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser offers an exciting range of color options, including three dual-tone offerings. The magnificent chrome radiator grille flanked on both sides by high-luminosity headlamps further accentuates the upright stance. The inclusion of DRLs and the distinctive tail lamps makes this vehicle recognizable from a distance. In addition, features like body-coloured ORVMs, body-colour bumpers, roof rails, and roof-mounted short pole antenna give this vehicle a commanding presence.

Interiors and Comfort

Space is one thing that is available in plenty in the Renault Kiger. The 222mm knee room space for the rear-seat passengers makes this SUV one of the best in its segment. Besides the spacious boot to place your luggage, you can fold the rear seats and add more space whenever you need it. Furthermore, the rear AC vents allow the rear seat passengers to experience the highest luxury levels. In addition, the PM2.5 clean air filter purifies the air inside the vehicle to enhance comfort levels.

The 20.32cm display link floating touchscreen infotainment system is compatible with Android and iOS to enable smartphone replication. In addition, this infotainment system connects to a quality Arkamys sound system with four speakers and tweeters.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser offers exemplary space inside the vehicle to make it comfortable for its occupants. The leather-wrap steering wheel makes it convenient for you to navigate the vehicle. The front and rear adjustable headrest offer excellent support to the lumbar region. Besides, you can adjust the driver seat height to suit your preferences. The 60:40 split rear seats add to the enormous boot space available.

The 17.78cm Smart Play Cast touchscreen infotainment system is compatible with iOS and Android. In addition, this SUV comes with four-door speakers and two tweeters to deliver a decent acoustic performance.

Engine and Performance

The new 1.0L turbo engine is the heart of the Renault Kiger. It connects to three types of transmission systems, Energy MT and easy R-AMT, and the turbo X-Tronic CVT to deliver a smooth and effortless driving performance. The vehicle offers three convenient driving modes, Eco, Normal, and Sport, that drivers can choose depending on their preferences. The Start/Stop button enables quick ignition and also saves fuel.

The new K-Series 4-cylinder gasoline engine delivers superior efficiency with mileage performance of 17.03kmpl for the manual transmission vehicles and 18.76kmpl for the auto transmission variants. Moreover, this powerful engine works cohesively with manual and auto transmission systems on all trims to deliver high-quality performance. Features like Torque Assist Function, idle start/stop function, and brake energy regeneration are available in all variants.

Ride, Handling, and Safety

The Renault Kiger makes optimum use of modern technology to offer its passengers a safe ride. The safety measures start with the four airbags for the driver and front-seat co-passengers. This compact SUV comes equipped with a high-quality braking system comprising ABS and EBD to enable effortless braking in adverse driving conditions. The driver gets assistance parking the vehicle without any problems from features like a rearview camera and front parking sensors. The Toyota Urban Cruiser offers two airbags for the front seat occupants to protect them from impacts due to collision. The high tensile steel used in the body structure makes it a robust vehicle capable of withstanding heavy impacts. Features like Hill Hold Assist are available on the AT variants. In addition, the excellent braking system with ABS and EBD enables smooth braking under challenging conditions.

The availability of the rearview and reverse parking camera and the electro-chromatic inner rear-view mirror adds to the driver’s convenience while parking.

Verdict

The Renault Kiger comes in four trims branching out into twenty-three variants, depending on the engine and transmission system. The pricing starts from Rs 5.64 lakhs to make it one of the lowest-priced SUVs in India.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser comes with a starting price of Rs 8.62 lakhs, much higher than Kiger’s starting price. However, the additional features available on this vehicle justifies its higher pricing. Therefore, there is not much difference in the pricing if you go for the higher variants.

Though the lower-end pricing of the Urban Cruiser is higher than the Kiger, it is a preferable choice because of the availability of excellent features that ensure a quality driving experience.
