Qargos debuts electric cargo scooter: 150 km range, 80 kmph speed, 225-liter cargo. Eliminates backpacks, launching at Rs 2 lakh.
In a groundbreaking development, Pune-based start-up Qargos has unveiled the world’s first electric cargo scooter, aimed at revolutionizing last-mile deliveries. The two-wheeler, currently in its final stages of development, promises an impressive range of 150 kilometers and a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
Qargos has dedicated six years to the development of its electric cargo scooter. The vehicle is powered by a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, designed by the French multinational software corporation Dassault Systèmes. The battery is connected to a 3.4 kW motor, generating a peak power of 6 kW.

With a weight of 145 kg, the Qargos electric cargo scooter boasts a spacious 225-liter cargo compartment capable of carrying up to 120 kg of cargo. Charging the vehicle, using a standard AC power socket, currently takes around 5 hours and 15 minutes, but plans are in place to introduce DC charging capabilities, reducing the charging time to approximately 3 hours.
Currently undergoing testing, Qargos is actively making modifications to enhance the vehicle's performance. A key focus area is improving the aerodynamics of the electric cargo scooter, achieved through collaboration with Dassault Systèmes. The reduction in drag force is expected to result in a higher range for the Qargos EV.
The Qargos electric cargo scooter addresses critical challenges faced by conventional two-wheelers used in deliveries. With its larger cargo space, capable of carrying 70 parcels, the Qargos EV doubles the average deliveries possible with a traditional two-wheeler. The dedicated lockable cargo compartment not only simplifies parcel management but also protects shipments from the elements, eliminating concerns about theft.
Delivery executives are set to benefit from the elimination of heavy backpacks, improving overall efficiency. Parcel retrieval becomes more straightforward with the organized cargo compartment, enhancing the entire delivery process.
Qargos anticipates completing the testing and validation process shortly, with homologation expected by March or April. Bookings are likely to be announced in the following months, and the electric cargo 2-wheeler is projected to hit the market with a starting price of Rs 2 lakh. Initial production will see around 250 units by the end of the year, scaling up to approximately 12,000 units in 2025 as demand grows. The manufacturing will take place at Qargos' facility in Pune.
Having invested USD 1 million in the project to date, Qargos is actively seeking additional funds for production and marketing. The company has collaborated with leading Tier 1 suppliers for prototype development, with Ather assisting in creating the charging systems. Qargos is also in the process of developing a 2-seater version with a smaller cargo compartment, expanding its offerings in the electric cargo vehicle market.
