Right here in India, where it will be made, the new KTM 390 Duke has once more been seen testing. This up-close view of the future device exposes some brand-new information.
Highlights
• Engine updates are indicated by new engine covers, intake, and exhaust routing.
• New bodywork and redesigned seats
• Wheels, brakes, and swingarm alterations are part of the chassis.
Many of the alterations that have previously been noticed in earlier sightings of the next-generation 390 are confirmed by this most recent spy image. The redesigned engine covers and the rerouted exhaust system, which indicate modifications to the engine's internals as well as its externals, are two examples of this. This appears to be the most thorough overhaul to this engine in a while, with the intake routing also seeming different from the present model.
We'll have to wait for an official spec sheet to learn whether the rumoured increase in displacement to 399cc will occur. The test mule does, however, appear to have a larger radiator with a twin-fan configuration (the current Duke only has 1 fan). This would imply that the new motorcycle is producing greater power, perhaps through an increase in displacement. Additionally, it's possible that the additional fan is just there to aid with cooling the engine, which, while not as problematic as it formerly was, is still a minor concern with the modern 390 Duke. With its twin fan configuration, the 390 Adventure manages heat better.
The section of the frame that is visible on this new machine appears to be very identical to the current bike, despite the fact that more of the frame is hidden by bodywork. The updated swingarm, which appears to have a slightly altered shape and design, is what can be seen. The recently revised RC 390's new wheels and brakes will also be transferred to the Duke, with the front brake disc moving from the left side to the right without a carrier. As a result, there will be less unsprung mass, which should improve agility.
For this new bike, KTM completely changed the suspension layout by switching to an offset rear monoshock. Despite the fact that the repositioned shock is not evident in this view, the gap left by the shock on the existing machine is. Expect adjustments to the condition of tuning as well as possibly more adjustability. However, KTM has established a pattern of providing better suspension adjustability outside of India than inside of India, so it is unclear what specifications the bike will be offered with here. Rebound damping adjustment for the monoshock was included to the RC 390's most recent update last year, so the revised Duke in India is probably going to have it as well.
The new bodywork, with all the panels having been revised for this current generation, is the most noticeable of all the improvements. The new tank extensions, which are larger and sharper than those on the existing bike, are the most noticeable of the bunch. The seats have also been reprofiled, appearing to be more spacious, and a new headlamp has also been added. Along with the rest of the bike, the mirrors have been updated and now seem sharp. The touch points have also undergone adjustments.
The switchgear is changed; the new red switch, which the present bike lacks, is located at the top of the left switch cube. This switch can be a danger one. The hand levers are another example, and oddly enough, they don't seem to be able to be adjusted. It would be strange for KTM to eliminate adjustable levers from the current machine, so perhaps this is just an issue with this test mule. Given that one lever is finished in black and the other is finished in bare metal, it is likely that the production model of the following-generation machine will maintain the changeable levers feature.
Regarding additional amenities, the 390 Duke is already a well-equipped bike and will keep its dual-channel ABS, bi-directional quickshifter, and Bluetooth-enabled TFT display. Expect it to get an IMU in addition to traction control, just like the most recent RC 390 model did.
This test mule appears to be very fully finished, with the exception of a few places like the hand levers. This next-generation device has also previously been observed in India and appeared to be ready for manufacture.
All of this suggests that the Duke is about to undergo an official update and will very definitely come out of hiding this year. Taking into account the additions and upgrades (ex-showroom, Delhi),expect a little increase from the machine's current pricing of Rs. 2.96 lakh, .
