In September 2023, the Indian bike market showed promising signs of growth, with a total of 11.8 lakh units zooming off the shelves. These sales accounted for 69.1% of the overall two-wheeler market, marking a slight uptick from the previous month when 11.6 lakh bikes were sold, making up 68.4% of the two-wheeler sales pie.
The factors fueling this growth include heightened demand during the festive season, the resurgence of the rural economy, a preference for personal mobility, and the introduction of new bike models.

Leading the pack, Hero MotoCorp sold 5.36 lakh units in September 2023, marking a 3% year-on-year growth compared to the 5.2 lakh units sold in September 2022. Hero attributed this growth to the strong demand for its iconic brands, including the Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe, Glamour, and the well-received Karizma XMR premium bike.
Securing the second spot, Bajaj Auto sold 2.18 lakh units in September 2023, showcasing a 7% year-on-year growth from the 2.04 lakh units sold in September 2022. The company's performance was driven by popular models like the Pulsar, Platina, and CT100. Bajaj also introduced the Chetak EV, an electric bike, which garnered positive customer responses.
TVS Motor claimed the third position, selling 1.62 lakh units in September 2023. This represented a 5% year-on-year growth from the 1.54 lakh units sold in September 2022. The growth was spurred by the flagship Apache model, which crossed the one crore sales milestone in September 2023. Additionally, TVS launched the comfortable and economical Radeon Plus commuter bike.

Conclusion:
The Indian bike market demonstrated moderate growth in September 2023, with a total of 11.8 lakh units finding new homes. This indicates a steady recovery for the market following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
The future looks promising as more customers opt for bikes as their preferred mode of personal transportation and as manufacturers continue to roll out exciting new models.
Government support and incentives will also play a pivotal role in driving the demand for bikes in India. So, expect to see more bikes on the roads as the market continues to gain speed.
