MG Motor India has recently launched the Gloster, which is proving to be a good launch by the brand. The already popular model MG Hector, is also on demand by the consumers, despite the ongoing pandemic situation. The company received 80,000 bookings of Hector, ZS EV, and Gloster together in 2020. According to some of the officials of the company, Gloster will give a good competition to Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The car has already received 3,500 bookings in less than three months. The company is now increasing its production capacity to meet the rising demand. According to IHS Markit, the company has manufactured about 30,000-31,000 vehicles in 2020. The Halol Plant of MG Motor India has the capacity to produce 80,000 cars annually.
Gaurav Gupta, the COO of MG Motor India said that in December, the company had received 5,000 bookings for Hector and 200 for ZS EV. He said that a lot of work needs to be done by the company. The factory needs to be run for longer hours to meet the demands at a faster pace. This is how the brand has entered in 2021. He further said that the brand is pacing up and trying to get the best mix for its production increase. MG is also working with its suppliers to bring them closer to its plant, which in turn will help in the reduction of the logistics timing. The company is also working towards making its suppliers more productive.
MG had seen a 77 per cent growth in 2020 with 28,162 units against 15,930 units in 2019. The major reason for such growth was the brand's MG Hector car, which contributed over 92.85 per cent at 25,935 units. MG Hector was the only C-SUV that saw a growth of 63 per cent, as compared to the rival cars when the overall segment decreased by 10.2 per cent.
Gaurav Vangaal, associate director of IHS Markit said that MG Hector is becoming quite popular and being bought by the rich people in the country. There is a perception of the SUV about being a premium one, with a premium in-built technology as well. It also comes with some unique features like the Hinglish voice command. The SUV comes in six, as well as seven-seater options, that attract more buyers. The new range of MG Hector has a range starting at INR 12.89 lakh for the five-seater. The 6-seater and 7-seater are priced at INR 15.99 lakh and INR 13.34 lakh, respectively.
