Euro NCAP crash tested Mercedes -Benz GLC landed itself a five star rating. Along with onboard safety tech the SUV got high scores in occupant protection for both child occupants and adult occupants. However, in pedestrian protection it scored low.
During frontal impact testing, for adult occupant protection SUV scored 92 percent provides good to adequate level of safety and protection. For rear occupants, levels of protection is almost good. There is good protection provided to the driver through chest production in the side mobile barrier impact which is dropping down to weak in terms of side pole testing. The airbag in the centre is providing good protection for far side excursion of front occupant. For both rear and front passengers whiplash protection was well.
SUV body structure was rated stable post impact by Euro NCAP. In child occupant protection it offers 90 percent protection for all critical body parts for the 6 year old and 10 year old child occupants. It falls between good to adequate level of protection. ISOFIX and i- sized child rear outer seats. EURO NCAP marked the seats properly installed. On the installation of a rear -facing child seat on the co-driver’s seat ,there is automatic co-driver airbag deactivation in the Benz GLC.
Mercedes Benz GLC scored less in pedestrian protection. Bonnet provides good protection to pedestrian head but A-millers are weak when it comes to pedestrian lower back in case of an impact. Overall protection rated as weak. Bumper offers good protection to the pedestrian’s legs. Consequently SUV received only 23.4 points out of 36 in terms of pedestrian protection however AEB systems are declared good when it comes to identify mitigating collisions and other road users. SUV scored 74 percent for vulnerable road protection. Onboard safety system was awarded 84 percent and Lane keep assist also performed well. For the entire GLC range results are not valid. Plug -in hybrid GLC 400e and GLC 300e will be further tested before rating is provided.
