Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the Swift CNG, priced at ₹8.20 lakh (ex-showroom), four months after introducing its petrol variant. The CNG model is available in three trims: VXi, VXi (O), and ZXi. The Swift CNG marks Maruti Suzuki’s fourteenth CNG-powered offering in the Indian market.
Fuel Efficiency: 6% more fuel-efficient than the previous generation.
New Variant: ZXi trim added due to customer demand.
Sales: Close to 67,000 Swift units sold since the petrol variant launch.
The Swift CNG comes at a premium, costing ₹90,000 more than the equivalent petrol variant. Below is the price list for the new Swift CNG:
The Swift CNG is powered by the new Z12E petrol engine, fitted with a CNG kit for the first time. This setup offers an impressive 32.85 km/kg fuel efficiency, as per ARAI, which is 6% more efficient than the outgoing Swift CNG model that featured the 1.2-litre K-series engine.
The CNG variant is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Like its petrol counterpart, the CNG model sees a slight dip in power output compared to the older version, though torque has improved.
The Swift CNG features a single large CNG cylinder in the boot, unlike Hyundai and Tata models that offer a twin-cylinder setup. Maruti Suzuki also claims that the Swift CNG’s CO2 emissions are down by 6%, making it a more eco-friendly option.
The entry-level VXi trim is equipped with:
The mid-level VXi (O) trim adds:
The ZXi variant, introduced due to consumer demand for a feature-rich CNG model, includes:
LED projector headlamps with DRLs
Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the Indian CNG market, targeting annual sales of 6 lakh CNG-powered vehicles. In 2023, the automaker sold 4.77 lakh CNG vehicles, and between April and August 2024, Maruti sold 2.21 lakh CNG cars and SUVs.
The Swift CNG is expected to capture a growing share of this market, with 15% of the previous-gen Swift’s sales attributed to CNG models. Deliveries for the new Swift CNG are set to commence this weekend in Gujarat, followed by rollouts in other key states including Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.
Maruti expects increased demand for the Swift CNG due to its improved fuel economy and broader price range.
