Read the comprehensive August 2024 sales report for Maruti, featuring an in-depth analysis of passenger vehicle sales across Mini, Compact, Mid-Size, Utility Vehicles, and Vans segments.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Report of August 2024

In August 2024, Maruti Suzuki reported an 8.35% year-on-year (YoY) decline in passenger vehicle sales and a 3.13% decrease in year-to-date (YTD) sales. However, exports showed a positive trend, with a 5.64% YoY increase and a 9.55% YTD growth. The decline in domestic passenger vehicle sales over recent months and the past year is attributed primarily to stagnating income growth, which has affected consumers' purchasing power.

Maruti experienced mixed results across various segments, with some areas showing growth while others saw a decline. This analysis examines the sales performance across different segments, comparing August 2024 data with the same period in 2023 and the cumulative performance for FY 2024-25 against FY 2023-24.

Maruti Suzuki Car Sales in August 2024: Segment Wise

1. Mini Segment

Models

Alto, S-Presso

August 2024 Sales 10,648 units
August 2023 Sales 12,209 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 51,424 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 62,199 units

The Mini segment witnessed a decline in sales, with a 12.8% drop in August 2024 compared to August 2023. The cumulative sales from April to August also show a significant decrease of 17.3% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This decline suggests a shift in consumer preference towards larger vehicles or increased competition in the mini-segment market.

2. Compact Segment

Models

Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR

August 2024 Sales 58,051 units
August 2023 Sales 72,451 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 305,941 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 350,378 units

The Compact segment also saw a decrease, with a 19.9% drop in sales in August 2024 compared to August 2023. The cumulative sales for the fiscal year also show a decline of 12.7%. This trend indicates a potential slowdown in demand for compact cars, possibly due to rising competition or changes in consumer preferences towards other segments like SUVs.

3. Mid-Size Segment

Models

Ciaz

August 2024 Sales 707 units
August 2023 Sales 849 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 3,479 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 5,950 units

The Mid-Size segment, represented by the Ciaz, experienced a significant decline in sales. August 2024 saw a 16.7% decrease compared to August 2023, and the cumulative sales for the fiscal year show a sharp 41.6% drop. This segment appears to be under significant pressure, likely due to increased competition from other mid-size sedans and the growing popularity of SUVs.

4. Utility Vehicles (SUVs and MUVs)

Models

Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, XL6

August 2024 Sales 62,684 units
August 2023 Sales 58,746 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 282,116 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 247,196 units

The Utility Vehicles segment was a bright spot for Maruti, with a 6.7% increase in August 2024 sales compared to August 2023. The cumulative sales from April to August FY 2024-25 show a robust growth of 14.1%. This indicates a strong consumer preference for SUVs, aligning with the global trend towards larger, more versatile vehicles.

5. Vans

Models

Eeco

August 2024 Sales 10,985 units
August 2023 Sales 11,859 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 56,692 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 56,572 units

The Vans segment, represented by the Eeco, saw a slight decline of 7.4% in August 2024 compared to August 2023. However, the cumulative sales for the fiscal year show a marginal increase, indicating stable demand for this segment.

August 2023 Sales 2,564 units

April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 13,202 units

The LCV segment saw a slight decline of 2.7% in August 2024 compared to August 2023. However, the cumulative sales for the fiscal year show a small increase, reflecting steady demand in this segment.

7. OEM Sales

August 2024 Sales 10,209 units
August 2023 Sales 5,790 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 45,159 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 23,214 units

Sales to other OEMs saw a significant increase of 76.3% in August 2024 compared to August 2023, and the cumulative sales for the fiscal year nearly doubled. This growth indicates strong demand for Maruti's products from other manufacturers.

8. Total Domestic Sales (PV+LCV)

August 2024 Sales 145,570 units
August 2023 Sales 158,678 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 712,984 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 735,497 units

Total domestic sales, including LCVs, declined by 8.3% in August 2024 compared to August 2023, with cumulative sales for the fiscal year down by 3.1%. This reflects the challenges faced in the domestic market, particularly in the Mini and Compact segments.

9. Export Sales

August 2024 Sales 26,003 units
August 2023 Sales 24,614 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 120,548 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 110,031 units

Export sales showed positive growth, with a 5.6% increase in August 2024 compared to August 2023, and a 9.6% increase in cumulative sales for the fiscal year. This indicates growing demand for Maruti's products in international markets.

10. Total Sales (Domestic + Export)

August 2024 Sales 181,782 units
August 2023 Sales 189,082 units
April-August FY 2024-25 Sales 878,691 units
April-August FY 2023-24 Sales 868,742 units

Total sales, combining domestic and export markets, declined by 3.9% in August 2024 compared to August 2023. However, the cumulative sales for the fiscal year show a modest increase of 1.1%, driven by growth in the Utility Vehicles segment and export markets.

Conclusion

Maruti's performance in August 2024 reflects a mixed bag of results. The company faces challenges in the Mini, Compact, and Mid-Size segments, with declining sales in these areas. However, the growth in the Utility Vehicles segment and positive trends in export sales provide a silver lining. Maruti may need to focus on bolstering its presence in the high-growth SUV market while addressing the decline in smaller segments to maintain overall market share and profitability.
