Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the largest selling premium hatchback has crossed the 10 lakhs sales figure in just six years of its launch which goes onto show the love and demand for this zippy, stylish car.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the largest selling premium hatchback has crossed the 10 lakhs sales figure in just six years of its launch which goes onto show the love and demand for this zippy, stylish car.
This figure becomes astonishing when considering the fact that the Baleno ditched its diesel engine in March 2020 and continues to be sold exclusively through the NEXA showrooms. The Maruti Baleno was the fastest premium hatchback to sell 6 lakhs units, completing the feat in just under 4 years.
Technical Specifications:
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno continues to be offered in the 1.2 L naturally aspirated petrol engine with two versions, the 83hp normal version and the 90hp mild-hybrid version mated to a five-speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes. The Baleno offers a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with digital MID screen along with a nicely designed spacious cabin with good fuel efficiency and great driving dynamics.
Why the Baleno Continues to be so Popular?
The Baleno is a preferred option for people looking to buy a premium hatchback as it offers a large legroom area along with a comfortable ride quality. The extensive service network of Maruti Suzuki and its refined and trusted 1.2 L petrol engine makes it a peace of mind offering for the customers, also the Baleno continues to be the only mild-hybrid offering in the hatchback space which improve fuel economy. The Maruti Baleno prices start from INR 5.99 lakhs for the base model and goes upto INR 9.45 lakhs for the Baleno top model (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
Future Launch:
The current generation Baleno received a mild facelift in 2019 when Maruti Suzuki updated its front fascia along with adding a few features to the cabin as well. With Maruti readying itself for the launch of the all new Baleno, of which the spy-shots have leaked online we can safely assume that this premium offering from Maruti is not going to slow down its run as Maruti Suzuki has completely overhauled the exterior and interior of the car as evident from the pictures which will make this offering from Maruti an exciting product for the potential customers.

Baleno Rivals:
The Baleno has always been in the top 10 selling cars in India with also being the largest selling premium hatchback offering every month, with contributing 65% of the sales for NEXA. The Baleno rivals the likes of the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment and the recent launches like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Triber, which have prices in the range of the premium hatchbacks but offer a more upright and tall presence due to their SUV-ish looks and are looking to eat into the Baleno’s sales thus, the upcoming launch of the new Baleno can help Maruti Suzuki consolidate its position in the premium hatchback space.
