Maruti eVX, a compact electric SUV, spotted testing in India, features a stylish design and advanced tech, debuting in 2025.
India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has entered the electric vehicle (EV) race with the Maruti eVX, a compact SUV built on a born-electric platform. While they have started later than some competitors, the potential in the electric segment is vast, and Maruti aims to capitalize on it. Recent sightings of the test mule reveal exciting details about this upcoming electric SUV.
The Maruti eVX boasts a sporty X-shaped front fascia, giving it a striking appearance. The dual LED DRLs bordering the projector headlamps add to its modern look. Similar lighting elements are seen at the rear. The SUV features curvy body panels, enhancing its elegant and aerodynamic profile, which will help improve its range.
The side profile includes polygonal wheel arches and ORVMs with integrated turn signals. The front doors have conventional handles, while the rear handles are mounted on the C-pillar, contributing to its sleek design. Blacked-out pillars and attractive alloy wheels are expected, adding to the sporty feel. The rear sports a roof-mounted spoiler, washer and wiper, and a prominent bumper. The tailgate outline suggests ample boot space.
Inside, the Maruti eVX is packed with features. Built on a born-electric platform, it could include several best-in-class and segment-first features. Test mules show a large touchscreen infotainment system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a spacious center console. The premium-looking seats appear to be made of leatherette material, and soft-touch materials are used throughout the cabin.
The eVX will cater to common consumer demands with features like a wireless charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats, a premium sound system, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents. The safety kit includes front and rear parking sensors, a 360° surround view monitor, blind spot monitoring, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Radar and camera-based ADAS features are also expected.
The Maruti eVX is estimated to have a 60-kWh battery pack, delivering a range of around 500 km. To appeal to a broader segment, it will be available in both single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD formats.
Competitors include the MG ZS EV, with a 50.3 kWh battery pack and a 461 km range, and the upcoming Creta EV, which is expected to have a 45-50 kWh battery pack with a range of around 450 km. The eVX will also compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv EV, whose top-spec variants will use a 55-kWh battery pack, offering a range of around 550 km.
The Maruti eVX is expected to debut in 2025. A competitive price point is anticipated as Maruti aims to achieve high sales volumes. It will be interesting to see if consumers place their trust in Maruti’s first fully electric vehicle.
