Kia's flagship EV9 electric SUV, previewed at Auto Expo 2023, is launching in India on October 3 as a CBU, expected to be priced over Rs. 1 crore.

Kia Teases the EV9 Ahead of its October 3 Launch in India

Kia is set to introduce its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, to the Indian market on October 3. The EV9, which made its concept debut at Auto Expo 2023, will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Based on the E-GMP skateboard electric platform, the EV9 features impressive dimensions, measuring 5,010mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase. The EV9 SUV is expected to carry a price tag exceeding Rs. 1 crore, positioning it in the high-end EV segment.

The EV9 offers versatility in seating arrangements, available in both 6 and 7-seater configurations. Internationally, it comes with two battery options: a 76.1 kWh unit and a larger 99.8 kWh unit. The rear-wheel drive variants, equipped with a single motor, provide an EPA-estimated range of 370-489 km. For those seeking enhanced performance, the all-wheel-drive version features dual electric motors and offers a range of 435-451 km on a single charge.

Performance specifications of the EV9 are:

  • Single-motor versions produce 201 hp or 215 hp, depending on the variant, with 350Nm of peak torque
  • The AWD version generates 379 hp and up to 700 Nm of torque
  • The top-tier GT-Line can accelerate from 0-100 kph in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 200 kph

It remains to be seen whether Kia will introduce both RWD and AWD versions in the Indian market.

The EV9's launch will place it in direct competition with other luxury electric SUVs, including the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, BMW iX1, and Audi Q8 e-tron. This move signifies Kia's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in India, building upon the success of its current flagship EV, the EV6.

Coinciding with the EV9's debut, Kia plans to unveil the next-generation Carnival in India on the same day, October 3. This dual launch underscores the company's strategy to strengthen its presence in both the electric and conventional vehicle segments of the Indian automotive market.

As the launch date approaches, more details about the EV9's specifications, features, and pricing for the Indian market will be disclosed.
