In a groundbreaking step, Delhi gears up for cleaner air with Stage-III of GRAP back in action and a central order banning certain vehicles. Explore the exemptions, penalties, and the collaborative approach to combat rising pollution levels.

Delhi Government's Bold Move and Central Ban Signal Cleaner Horizons

Celebratory News Flash for Delhiites!

Amidst concerns over declining air quality in Delhi and NCR, the Delhi government is taking a bold stance to revive the air we breathe. Reintroducing Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), this move is set to make a positive impact on the recent environmental challenges faced by the capital. In a parallel stride, the central government has issued a groundbreaking order prohibiting the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers, recognizing their substantial contribution to particulate matter emissions.

Effective immediately in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, the ban is comprehensive but mindful of essential services. Vehicles engaged in emergency services, police vehicles, and government vehicles for enforcement purposes are granted exemptions, ensuring that crucial operations continue unhindered.

To ensure compliance, penalties for violations under Section 194(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, have been set at a noteworthy Rs 20,000. The decision was prompted by the vigilant Commission for Air Quality Management, detecting a spike in Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI), reaching 458 and 457 at 10 am and 11 am, respectively. Climatic conditions and local pollution sources were identified as contributing factors.

A noteworthy aspect is the Graded Response Action Plan, categorizing actions into four stages based on AQI levels, with the recent reintroduction of Stage-III due to the deteriorating air quality. This showcases the commitment of both the central and state governments to promptly address environmental concerns.
