Delhi’s Electric Vehicle Policy gets a four-month extension. Subsidies, road tax waivers, and a surge in EV registrations highlight the policy's impact.
By extending its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy by an additional four months, the Delhi government is guaranteeing tax breaks and subsidies for EV purchasers through March 31, 2025. The regulation, which was first implemented in 2020 for a three-year period has been extended over the period of time.
The extension comes as Delhi grapples with severe air pollution, and the government focusing on reducing vehicular emissions:
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced, “The policy’s extension till March 31, 2025, will further strengthen our efforts against pollution. I urge Delhi residents to adopt EVs and contribute to a cleaner environment.”
EV buyers in Delhi will continue to benefit from the following incentives under the extended policy:
The policy expansion has been appreciated by manufacturers, with JSW MG Motor India also giving a thumbs up on demand and environmental health. "This progressive move will inspire change for a healthier environment and spur demand for EVs in the region," said Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer at JSW MG Motor. In India, MG Motor sells well-known EVs such the Comet EV, Windsor EV, and ZS EV.
To expand on the success of the current EV policy, the Delhi government is developing a new one. The updated framework is anticipated to be even more ambitious in tackling Delhi's pollution issues, and stakeholder negotiations are still ongoing.
