Mercedes-Benz debuts MB.OS at CES 2024, featuring AI virtual assistant, 3D navigation, and advanced infotainment for a futuristic driving experience.
Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its highly anticipated next-generation operating system, MB.OS, featuring an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) virtual assistant. The first production vehicle to showcase this innovative technology will be the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA, that’s set to debut later this year.
Mercedes-Benz's latest operating system, MB.OS, is not merely an evolution of its predecessor but a leap into the future of automotive technology. Differentiating itself from the existing MBUX infotainment system, the new OS promises an increased speed, efficiency, and a host of enhanced features.
At the heart of the MB.OS lies an upgraded MBUX Virtual Assistant, generative AI and a sophisticated language model. This AI-driven assistant is designed for providing more natural speech interactions, offering detailed suggestions based on the routines, and even mirrors the driver's moods.
The new operating system introduces a variety of audio and gaming partner apps, complemented by a state-of-the-art three-dimensional gaming engine. This integration not only enhances the graphics for the gaming enthusiasts but also contributes to the overall responsiveness and processing power of the system.
One of the standout features of the MB.OS is its 3D navigation system, offering the drivers a visually immersive experience. Sharp graphics and detailed driving directions, powered by the gaming engine, providing real-time information about the surrounding vehicles, road signs, and even the lane recommendations. The augmented-reality display showcases the surroundings, including the buildings, time, and the weather conditions, aiming to simplify the decision-making in the urban traffic.
The new MB.OS brings a slew of fresh infotainment features, with a built-in Audible and Amazon Music taking the center stage. The system also synchronizes the speakers, ambient lighting, and in-seat exciters when playing the Dolby Atmos-capable audiobooks, radio dramas, and music, ensuring an unparalleled immersive experience for the occupants.
The production version of the Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA Class will be the recipient of the new MB.OS. It is expected to hit the market later this year, the CLA will be built on the MMA architecture, with both electric and internal combustion engine variants that will be available. Mercedes-Benz plans to roll out the MB.OS to the other models in its lineup also at a later stage.
