The electric vehicle giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) has launched its 3rd passenger vehicle in India. After the success of electric MPV E6 and electric crossover SUV Atto 3, the all electric sedan Seal is BYD’s most advanced electric vehicle among the 3.
With the launch of BYD Seal at a starting price of Rs 41 Lakhs (ex-showroom), the near 50 Lakh premium electric car segment is set to see more competition and disruption. Now, with all the details about the vehicle revealed by the brand, here’s everything you need to know about the BYD Seal.
Inspired by the ocean, the BYD Seal gets a lot of unique design elements like ripple effect lamps in the front bumper, electrically retracting flush type door handles, 19 inch alloys with aero efficient wheel hub, etc. The front headlamp units also come with air curtains to aid aerodynamics. Moreover, from the side profile, its fastback design with sloping roof makes it even more sporty looking. In the rear too, it comes with connected LED tail lamps.

On the infotainment front, the BYD Seal gets a 10.25 inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.6 inch touchscreen infotainment system with electrically rotating function (portrait or landscape orientation), dual wireless phone chargers, wireless android auto/apple car play, etc.
For passengers comfort, the BYD Seal offers dual zone auto AC, front ventilated and heated seats, 8 way power adjustable driver seat with memory function, 4 way power adjustable lumbar support for driver seat, a panoramic glass roof, etc. Moreover, it also comes with an electric tailgate with anti pinch function, 60:40 split folding rear seats, flat floor in the cabin, and more.
On the safety front, it comes equipped with active safety features like 360 degree camera, front & rear parking sensors, ESP, traction control and hill hold. For passive safety it offers 9 airbags.
On the tech front, it comes loaded with advanced features like windshield heads up display, NFC card key, electrically adjustable AC vents, electric parking brake with auto hold, vehicle to load charging, etc.
BYD has also equipped the Seal with advanced ADAS tech consisting of autonomous driving features like auto emergency braking, auto high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert and braking, etc. For enabling all these ADAS features the Seal comes embedded with 1 front facing camera and 5 millimeter wave radars.
The Seal will be available in 3 powertrain options in India. The first one is the rear wheel drive option with a 61.44 kWh blade battery & a PMS motor generating 150 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque. The second one is also the rear wheel drive option with a 82.56 kWh blade battery & a PMS motor generating 230 kW of power and 360 Nm of torque.
The third one is the all wheel drive option with a 82.56 kWh blade battery and dual motor setup (one for each, front & rear wheels) generating a combined power of 390 kW and combined torque of 670 Nm.
The all wheel drive powertrain option offers a staggering 0 to 100 km acceleration in just 3.8 seconds. Moreover, on the range front, the 82.56 kWh all wheel drive option offers 580 Km of NEDC range, the 61.44 kWh option offers 510 Km of NEDC range and the 82.56 kWh rear wheel drive option offers 650 Km of NEDC range.
Customers can choose from 4 unique looking colours i.e. Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Gray and Cosmos Black.
With a starting price of Rs 41 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the base variant, and going all the way up to Rs 53 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the top end performance all wheel drive variant, the BYD Seal will compete with rivals like Hyundai IONIQ 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo C40 Recharge, Kia EV6, etc.
