BMW's already patented shift cam engine to come out in BMW G 310 and C400 series bikes and scooters.
The BMW G 310 is a lightweight entry-level motorcycle that was introduced by BMW Motorrad in 2016. The G 310 is a versatile machine that is ideal for both urban and highway riding. One of the stand out features of the BMW G 310 is its high build quality and finish.
The BMW G 310 series and the C400 range of scooters are the only single cylinder models produced by BMW. Previously the G 310 had a single overhead camshaft BMW is developing a ShiftCam system for a single-cylinder engine with twin overhead camshafts, according to a recent patent filing.

This is a considerably smaller system that must be installed in a smaller engine, as opposed to the one BMW utilizes for its larger engines. The mechanism itself slides the intake camshaft along its axis using a solenoid actuator to put various cam profiles in contact with the inlet valves.
One cam profile is designed for lower RPMs and has a shorter duration and lower lift, while the other cam profile is designed for higher RPMs and has a higher lift and a longer duration. Exhaust valves maintain the same timing, duration, and lift across the rev range, whereas only the inlet valves exhibit this variability.
It even stops unburned gasoline and air from accessing the exhaust port. A second idle gear is also required to connect the inlet and exhaust valves as a result of the camshaft sliding.
This new technology may be helpful for this performance based bike although it is a single cylinder bike but it is much more stable at higher speeds than the other bikes in the competition.
