2022 Ather Gen-3 450 Plus priced Rs 1.17 lakhs & 450X priced Rs 1.39 lakhs, launched in India. The new updated Ather e-scooters boast of bigger batteries and new features. The Gen-3 450X UI features an updated instrument panel with a re-designed Ather OS with a new 2GB RAM. In future this will open features such as deep diagnostics, heavy graphics, multiple language assist and voice commands.
Ather Energy, the electric vehicle maker based in Bangalore recently launched the new Ather 450 Plus and 450X Gen 3 e-scooters. The new Ather models for 2022 have commenced sales across Ather dealerships all over India from 20th July 2022.
The EV startup from Bangalore, that launched the 2018 Gen-1 and 2020 Gen-2 450 platform, is supported by Hero MotoCorp - India's biggest two-wheeler manufacturer.
Gen-3 Ather EV Price in India 2022:The Ather 450 Plus EV price in India is Rs 1.17 lakh and the 450X electric scooter price is Rs 1.39 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 450X Ather scooter costs a thousand bucks more in Delhi unlike earlier, whereas in rest of the country, the average hike is about five thousand rupees, however the prices differ across cities.
New Ather EV Features 2022:The latest Ather Gen 3 scooter feature a ‘Smart EcoTM mode’ that enables the user to navigate in ‘Ride' mode and also get the reach of the ‘Eco’ mode. The newly updated variants offer 5 riding modes: Eco, Ride, SmartEco, Sport, and Warp. The top output of energy in Warp mode is 6.2 kW.
According to the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer, with respect to the user interface and experience, the new Gen-3 450X gets a new display console with re-designed Ather operating system and a refurbished RAM unit of 2 gigabytes, an increase from the 1GB RAM in the older Ather EV models. Going forward this will allow to open up various features such as deep diagnostics, heavy graphics, multiple language assist and voice commands.
As stated by the company, the new Ather 450X e-scooter is fitted with a larger, more capable and robust 3.7kWh battery pack, allowing riders to drive in the ‘Warp’ (the high-performance mode of Ather) in every ride. The new Ather battery is 25 percent bigger as well compared to the older generation and offers an ARAI-approved range of 146kms and 105 kms of TrueRange.
The new change on the Ather EVs:A major change to the Ather 450X and 450 Plus models is the new bigger 3.7kWh battery pack compared to the previous 2.9kWh battery unit on the Ather 450X variant.
Consequently the new battery pack has helped an increase in the distance range of the Ather 450X with ARAI-approved 146 kilometres from the previous Ather 450X model's range of 116 kilometres, with real-time distance range increasing from 85kms to 105kms on Economy mode.
In terms of the 450 Plus EV performance, the ARAI reach is up to 108kms from 100kms previously, whereas the actual world reach is up to 85kms from 70kms on eco mode. The addition of a bigger battery means the total weight of both scooters has increased from 108 kilos to 112 kilos.
Also, the EV maker has upgraded the 450X scooter’s max power of the electric motor to 6.2 kW (i.e., when in Warp mode). The 450 Plus still has a maximum power of 5.4 kW, torque and consistent power remain the same for both variants, with 3.3 kW and 22Nm on the 450 Plus and 26 Nm on the 450X.
Ather Gen-3 450 Plus & 450X Competitors: Ather EVs rival electric scooters such as Ampere, Hero Electric, Bajaj Chetak, Ola Electric S1 Pro, TVS iQube Okinawa, Pure EV and many other electric scooter brands in India.
Gen 3 Ather now gets a wider tyre at the rear.
Ather has also fitted the e-scooters with broader 100/80-12 rear tires, an increase from 90/90-12 on previous variants. According to Ather, these tires help them with superior grip, control and traction in all climate situations and in a smaller brake range.
Also gets new single-cast aluminium rear-view mirrors.
The 2022 Ather electric scooters have also received a brand new aluminium side step, and new aluminium mono cast rear view mirrors, that are considered to be superior with regard to the reliability and visibility.
According to Mr Tarun Mehta, the Co-Founder and CEO of Ather Energy, “Introduced in 2020, the 450X Gen 2 really made EVs exciting for the Indian market and set the standard with its trusted performance and reliability. With the 450X Gen 3, we have doubled the performance parameters and taken it to the next level to deliver an exciting experience.”
He also said, ”The 450X Gen 3 will be instrumental in expanding the E2W segment in the country and truly bringing E2W into the mainstream as we continue to expand our footprint across the nation.”
The Gen-3 Ather scooter offer the same bigger trunk of 22 litres. The scooter will continue to feature the 7 inch touchscreen display system, alloy wheels of 12 inches, a belt drive system, regenerating front and rear disc brakes, and a telescopic fork.
Talking of the UI experience, the new Gen-3 450X features an updated instrument panel with a re-designed Ather controls and menu with a refurbished RAM unit of 2 gigabytes, an increase from the 1GB RAM in the older Ather EV models. Going forward this will allow to open up various features such as deep diagnostics, heavy graphics, multiple language assist and voice commands.
October 2023: Electric Two-Wheeler Sales Hit 71K, 10-Month Total Reaches 688K.
During the festival month, there was a boom in electric 2-wheeler sales in October 2023. Around 71,000 electric scooters were sold during this period.
