Polo vs. Kwid Comparison

The Volkswagen Polo is a premium hatchback with excellent features to ensure a smooth riding experience. Though it is more expensive than other hatchbacks in its segment, it is a popular car because of its exquisite looks and powerful engine options.

The Renault Kwid is the go-to vehicle if you wish to have the SUV-like experience of driving a hatchback car. Compared to the Polo, the Kwid is taller with bigger ground clearance. However, the Polo is a longer car with more spacious interiors.

Exterior Looks

The Volkswagen Polo is an attractive vehicle with perfectly-placed headlamps that illuminate the roads ahead with full glory. The fog lamps offer higher visibility, especially on mountainous stretches. The chrome grille, the front, and rear body-coloured bumpers, and the new alloy wheels add to the vehicle’s perfect looks. The turn indicators on the ORVM’s and the antenna placed strategically at the back end of the roof add to the vehicle’s overall beauty quotient. The Polo comes in a range of seven beautiful colours.

While the Polo wheel arches and sides are raised to deliver a muscular look, they do not give the vehicle a tallboy effect. The Kwid is different as it has a higher ground clearance and taller body structure while displaying a similar muscular look. In addition, the Kwid comes with a black skirting that extends over the wheel arches on both sides to merge with the front and rear bumpers to give the vehicle a nice attractive feel. The Kwid is primarily available in six colours with two additional dual-tone options.

Interiors and Comfort

The Polo interiors get a new silver trim that matches the upholstery, and the steering wheel colours perfectly. It adds a classy touch to the dashboard. Some of the luxurious features in the Polo include steering wheel adjustment, low fuel warning indicators, dust and pollen filter, power door locks, and electrically adjustable rearview mirror. The top-end variants come with steering-mounted controls, cruise control features, additional armrests, and the opening and closing of door feature using the key remote.

The Renault Kwid is a comparatively smaller car than the Volkswagen Polo, but it offers tremendous space inside the vehicle. The boot space of 279L can be expanded to 620L if required. The upholstery adds to the premium looks by enhancing the luxury factor. The next-gen technology available on the Kwid manifests itself in the infotainment setup compatible with Android and iOS smartphones. It helps in convenient navigation and offers excellent connectivity with the outside world.

Engine and Performance

The Volkswagen Polo runs on a powerful 1L TSI 3-cylinder Engine capable of delivering maximum power of 109bhp and torque of 175Nm. In addition, the power steering feature adds to your comfort levels. This engine pairs with either a manual transmission or automatic gearbox to deliver an excellent mileage performance. The manual mode offers a mileage of 17.75 to 18.24 kmpl.

On the other hand, the Kwid offers two types of engines in the 0.8L SCe petrol engine and the 1.0L SCe petrol engine, depending on the variants. The STD variant uses the smaller engine, whereas the Climber and RXT variants use the more powerful ones. These engines ensure high mileage efficiency, with the Kwid producing more than 21kmpl to qualify as a better performer in the fuel efficiency segment than the Polo.

Ride, Handling, and Safety

The Volkswagen Polo is a safer car than the Kwid. It comes with features like multiple airbags for passengers, an engine immobilizer, a central locking system child lock, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and many more. The headlamp beam adjuster feature makes it convenient for the drivers approaching you from the opposite direction. The rear wiper proves handy during heavy rains or fog. The seat belt warning instils driving discipline to ensure a safe driving experience. In comparison, the Kwid offers dual airbags for the front seat passengers, including the driver. It also features ABS and EBD to enable a smooth braking experience. In addition, the rear parking sensors allow the driver to park the vehicle comfortably in tight conditions.

Verdict

The Polo comes with enhanced features not available in the Kwid. It is a longer vehicle, more in the sedan mould, whereas the Kwid exudes an SUV look. The Polo is more expensive than the Kwid as the lowest priced version is higher than the top-end Kwid. The corresponding starting prices for the Polo and the Kwid are Rs 6.27 and Rs 3.32 lakhs. The top-end Kwid comes at Rs 5.48 lakhs, whereas the high-end Polo is available for Rs 10 lakhs.
