Car sales in India are declining and with fuel prices rising people are looking towards CNG and electric vehicles. Since EVs are still not budget friendly, the only alternative to petrol-diesel cars remains CNG cars.
Maruti Suzuki cars dominates the CNG car market in India, while Hyundai and Tata are other players in this area. The CNG vehicles are priced at a premium over the petrol versions but they do offer better fuel economy and thus, are better value for money.
Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio CNG recently and as is with the petrol-powered version, the CNG version is the most fuel efficient CNG car in India and is also the most fuel-efficient car in India, currently on sale.The Celerio CNG gets the all-new 1.0L, K10C dualjet petrol engine, making 57hp and 82nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.The USP, of this new engine is that it has, two fuel injectors for every cylinder. This helps in improving the mileage as the Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG mileage is 35.60 km/kg.
The Maruti Celerio CNG price is Rs 6.58 lakh, which is Rs 95,000 more than the petrol variant. Currently, the company only offers the Celerio CNG Vxi variant only.The car rivals the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Tata Tiago CNG and the Hyundai Santro CNG in India.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been one of the highest selling cars in India and its current iteration has made it an even more exciting prospect. The car has received a mild-facelift of sorts, with new dual-tone colour options as well as a few more features.
The WagonR CNG is available in three trims in India as it gets a 1.0L, petrol engine making 57hp and 82nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual only.The claimed Maruti Wagon R CNG mileage is 34.05 km/kg, which makes it a great CNG car for city driving.
The Wagon R price starts from Rs 6.35 lakh in India. It continues to rival its sibling the Celerio CNG, Hyundai Santro CNG and the Tata Tiago CNG.
The Maruti Alto 800 is set to get a makeover this year with the company testing the new model. It is expected to launch with the CNG variant as well.
The current Maruti Alto CNG is powered by the 796cc, petrol engine making 40hp and 60nm torque. It is the most affordable CNG car in India with the Alto CNG price starting from Rs 4.89 lakh.
The Maruti Alto 800 CNG fuel efficiency is 31.59 km/kg which makes it a great city car and is budget friendly compared to other cars in India.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG is another of the Maruti Suzuki cars to feature on this list. The S-Presso has a quirky design, which wants to look like an SUV with its raised stance and dynamics.
The S-Presso CNG has a 1.0L, K10B petrol engine making 49hp and 66nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the Spresso CNG mileage is 31.3 km/kg.
The Maruti S Presso CNG price starts from Rs 5.24 lakh and it is offered in four trims. The LXI, LXI(O) and the VXI, VXI(O) and it rivals the Maruti Celerio CNG and the Hyundai Santro CNG.
Hyundai Santro has long been the flag-bearer for the Hyundai cars in India and the car in its new avatar has continued that for the company. Santro is the entry level Hyundai car and is also offered in factory-fitted, CNG kit.
The Hyundai Santro CNG comes with a 1.1L, four cylinder, petrol engine which makes 60hp and 85.3nm of torque. It has more power and torque compared to its rivals like the Maruti Celerio CNG, Maruti Wagon R and the Tata Tiago CNG.
The Hyundai Santro CNG mileage is 30.48 km/kg and is one of the top 5 most fuel efficient CNG car in India. The company offers the Santro CNG in Magna and Sportz trims which are priced at around Rs-70,000 more than the petrol variants. The Hyundai Santro CNG price starts from Rs 6.09 lakh.
